That is a very good course of action and one that Mazda and NavTech will take note of. Currently we have limited our outcry to a relatively limited audience. (Mazda, NacTech and all of the owners involved here in our forum.) A nation wide audience gained thru the public publications can and will adversely affect national sales and will draw a lot of attention from Mazda and NavTech.
The next step is to organize our attack, first we need a volunteer to compile a list of the submission addresses (e-mail addresses as well) for all of the tuner and regular auto mags. Once posted, we can begin our attack by composing letters to each of the editors, and provide them with a concentration of letters expressing our frustrations, while advising potential buyers to beware. While I am a patient man, I agree with everyone else when saying "enough is enough". The $2,000.00 option is quickly becoming outdated and of limited use in may of our developing cities.

RX8 Pusher & Devious,

Glad you guys will join me in this new plan of attack.

C'mon everyone, we're going to need your help on this one.

Any other volunteers? Anyone know someone at any of the major car magazines?

We need to find someone who has a friend at Navteq.
I know.. keep dreaming..

My dealer has already commited to giving me a new disk as soon as they are released.
I let them screw me on another issue in trade for getting a new nav disk.

Watch them try to forget.. just my luck.. haha

I keep calling every day or every other. Hopefully with enough pressure they will get this going asap.....

I have a bunch of different magazines and lots of free time on my hands during the day so I will compile a list over the weekend of emails and contact I will take trip to my local Tower Records store and copy down the contact names out of the magazines that I don't already have. I just put this on the top of my list of things to do this weekend. Expect a list of emails late Sunday night.

After reading some of the posts on here I decided to write mazda myself. I have wrote them before and i've always gotten the same responce. Wait a month or so. Well this is the responce I got this time. BS or not what do you guys think?

P.S. I removed my vin number for privacy

Dear Scott,

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations.

I spoke directly with one of our supervisors and I was able to receive
the most up-to-date information on the new Map Data DVD for the RX-8.

It appears as though your specific VIN is part of a
select group that will automatically be mailed a copy of updated
version (U9-136 Operating System DVD).

At this moment the shipment is currently in Mazda Japan and is
estimated to leave by the end of June. We appreciate your patience as
it may take some time to get from Japan to the U.S. (Up to 4 weeks at
the most, I would imagine). Once here we will distribute them to these
select early model individuals.

Rest assured I have updated all your ownership information to the
Pinconning, Michigan address to ensure you receive it. Feel free to
contact me towards the end of June or early July to check the status
again.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. I do not have any other number
to give you at this time other than the Customer Assistance Center at
1-800-222-5500. However, I hope this information is helpful. It has
been my pleasure to assist you. Please feel free to reply to this
message with any further questions or comments.

Good response from Heather but I'll believe it when I see it.

Mazda has been pulling this trick for over a year now!

Scott- do you mind posting your VIN less the last 3 digits? I would like to find out if I'm in the same range, as I also have the older OS (September 03 build, vin #166XX)

I called up on Friday again..and it looks like our efforts have not gone unnoticed. The rep I talked to told me that the people above him are in the middle of resolving the conflict with the company that produces the maps. He still couldn't tell me when the updates would be ready but that the problem is currently being addressed. Could have been bullshit but he sounded somewhat sincere, especially when I used the "I paid an extra $2,000 for this damn thing when I bought the car" line.

Ok I"m sorry I didn't get to go to Tower Records and get more email addresses. I will compile a larger list of more emails and phone contacts for these and other magazines by the end of the week. But, here is what I have so far. I think our best bet is to go with the magazines that cover all automotive and not just tuner mags but we can write to the tuner mags as well:

Autoweek: awletter@crain.com

RXTuner: Submissions@rxtuner.com

ModifiedMag: David Pankew: dpankew@modified.com

RidesMagazine: (My good friend is the head Art Director here, I may be able to get some serious contacts that may help us with our issue) RIDESMAG@Harris-Pub.com

Car&Driver: editors@CARandDRIVER.com

Like I said I think our main sources which will help us the most are going to be Car&Driver and Autoweek and other mags like these but we can send the letters to everyone, like the person above me said we have nothing to loose.

And this is the CEO if anyone is interested maybe this is who we should be writing to but I haven't been able to get a contact email for him, I wouldn't think that it's listed. I will research it though I bet I can find a way to contact him

"IRVINE, Calif. – Mazda Motor Corporation, Hiroshima, Japan, today announced a series of executive management changes. As part of the announcement, James J. O’Sullivan was promoted from executive officer to managing executive officer, Mazda Motor Corporation, effective June 22, 2004. While taking on elevated responsibilities within the corporation, O’Sullivan’s North American duties remain unchanged. He will continue to be responsible for all aspects of the company’s U.S. and Canadian operations as president and chief executive officer. "

Exclamation Navteq to release updated map CDs in 2 weeks

Let me start by saying I have followed all the threads and am aware of the call history/myriad of excuses from Mazda about this update. I've called Mazda customer service regularly to complain (so I've heard a lot of diff stories from them).

Today I had a less pessimistic conversation with Mazda customer service. The helpful rep (after several missed attempts at understanding) said that I could get the updated map CD from Navteq. After my rant on that one quieted down, the service rep insisted that I could get them through Navteq... no really! According to Mazda (as of 6/6/05 1:38pm est) RX-8s after a certain build date (verified through my VIN) can get the CD directly from Navteq. Older builds will also need a dealer update. Sounds like the firmware update. The service rep gave me his extension in case I had a problem with Navteq.

I called Navteq and one of the managers was covering the phone when I requested the RX8 map CD (Manager's name is Jeanelle). She said that they will be available in about 2 weeks (notice no promise....). When I questioned her about it, I got back pretty much the same story as Mazda - older build dates will need an additional update CD from the dealer. Jeanelle told me she was in a manager meeting today where it was discussed and they will be getting the details shortly. She invited me to call back in a couple of days to check.

I don't know if this just false hope, another load of crap, or the real deal.

Can anyone confirm or confront?

Wonder if this dealer update will be free/low cost.. (I suspect this new nav disc won't be!)

The series number of my bin is all zeros except for the last 3.. So I have an early vehicle.

Great... thanks! Looks like yours was built roughly the month before mine... I think my month was the last to get the old Navi firmware. I'm going to follow up with Mazda on this as well...

Update:

Hi Scott!

Thanks for your reply.

This information has just recently been released to our Customer
Assistance Specialists late this afternoon. Please understand, I am
only able to provide information on your specific vehicle. Should any
of your fellow RX-8 owners have additional questions on this matter,
please have them contact our center again and we will be able to
provide them information on their specific vehicle.

Please allow me to clarify that an update to the Operating Software
(not the map data) will be sent to you free of charge, and this will
enable you to then order an updated map disc as well from Navtech.
Please contact Navtech for pricing information. Again, the Operating
Software update will be sent out around the end of July or early August
depending on when we receive the shipment.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
questions or comments.

Please take a moment to give us your opinion about our e-mail service.
