Development thread: Custom fiberglass sub box for RX8

I currently build and sell custom fiberglass enclosures for Infiniti G35 coupes and sedans. I have sold over 40 boxes in the last 4 months. I want to know if the RX8 guys would want a custom box for their cars. The box would be prob. for one 10" sub in the corner of the trunk (similar to my G35 coupe box). The box would not require any cutting or drilling to install. I also want to incorporate the rotor emblem on the front of the speaker grill. Attached are pics of my G35 coupe with the boxes that I sell installed. I need a doner car in the Houston area. If you are up to it I will give you one of the first boxes. Let me know how many of you are interested.

***Moderator edit***
This is a development only thread, folks. When the boxes are complete and tested, 4080 will be doing a Group Buy or becoming a Forum vendor to distribute them. Please refrain from any "how much?" type questions in this thread. Thanks.

How long does it take them? Do they touch your car? Do you need a rental while they are working on it? How thick is the fiberglass? Does the carpet match? Does it come with a grill? How about gold plated speaker binding posts? Most importantly, how does it look and sound? The box I am proposing does not require some guy pouring fiberglass inside your new car, you will not have that fiberglass smell in your car for months, I will never touch your car, you will not need a rental while the installer is working on your car, the carpet will match your factory carpet, it will come with a factory style grill, and it is built and designed by two installers that are MECP certified with over twenty+ combined years in car stereo installation. I went through the same thing with the G35 guys, no biggie. You will always find somebody cheaper. But finding the same quality, features, and experience will be difficult.

Angry I completely agree 4080!!!

First off, it is very hard to find someone who truly understands and appreciates a true fiberglass box that forms perfectly for the location that you want the subwoofer to go and still gives the desired sound that you might be looking for!! I have been working with fiberglass for car stereo for eight years myself and constantly run into people who say things stupid like "I FOUND SOMEONE WHO COULD DO IT LOCALLY FOR 150.00, SO YOU NEED TO LOWER YOUR PRICE." Either the box is crap, or the guy has a friend that can do it...Fiberglass is not cheap....even when done for your own personal car, the products are expensive....I have an RX-8 which has fibergalss door panels and subwoofer enclosure....not including paint i have more than 150.00 in the box....so this guys who is doing it for 150.00 either manufactuers all the needed products or he sees no need to make any money off of his work....I think you have done an excellent job with the boxes for the G35 to serve the purpose of not losing any trunk space...i just wanted to let you know that i completely understand the normal b.s. recieved from those who are Auto Sound Challanged.....anyway good luck and god bless....now that i said my piece for the year...back to only nice comments...

I'm with abbid- that's a lot for a small fiberglass enclosure. I could see that being the price for the first one, but once you have a mold made, wouldn't the labor be cut down quite a bit?

4080,

Here's a suggestion specific to the RX-8:

Most if not all RX-8s already tilt down about a half inch on the driver's side and it is noticeable. If you do build this enclosure, try and put it on the passenger side well of the trunk.

With a 10W7 and the weight of the enclosure (maybe 40 lbs total?) that will actually help correct the problem. Putting it on the driver's side will only exaggerate it.

The enclosure sounds very promissing. I do live in the Houston area, but I am already a little tide up with someone trying to build me a fiberglass enclosure.

Good luck,

-Mr. Wigggles

This is how the response on G35driver.com started. Half of the guys said it was too much. But after I built the first one, everyone turned around and sent money. We will just need to build one first to see if I can cut costs and to show you guys how it fits/looks. I am doing this to sell 6-8 per month, not high volumes, this is just a side job. I am going forward with this project.

Only interested in a rear mounted 10"? The 8 certainly has limited trunk space and frankly... RG:s box just looks badass. Take a look at the "Dual Audio Build in Houston" as I think you might find a number of people interested in this style of box...

How is the project coming along... how long do I need to wait to see this happen, or should I go to a local shop to get it done?

I'll be interested in one for each side if the price is reasonable.

The master plug is built. The mouldes are being built now. We have also the grill built that has the rotor in the middle, looks really nice. I will have pics soon. Wanting to ship within two weeks.

I will have pics tomorrow of both sides. We took a moulde of the center for a future universal amp rack too.

I work close to where the guy doing the fiberglass molds works so I offered to let them use my car.

He needs to reshoot the pictures (camera wigged out), but I have to say the dummy enclosures he made (needed to make the molds) looked awesome. There will be one for the left and right. For anyone who wanted to get two 10's into the RX-8 and still have most of you trunk left over, I can't think of a better way to do it. 600 Watts going into two 10W3's will be plenty of bass for a car the size of the RX-8.

I still think the pass through sub mentioned in the earlier thread will be as sweet or sweeter, but it is going to be a pain in the *** to build and install any way you look at it.

BTW, there will be a nice rotary grill included in 4080's design.

You guys won't be dissapointed; wait for the pics coming soon.

Great news. Can't wait to see the pics. This setup will allow us with a rear strutbar to keep it in place. Good job on being a test mule Wiggles.

I have the cargo net and the trunk organizer.

I don't think the cargo net, strut bar, spare tire, trunk organizer or any accessory will be nullified by this enclosure.
