Different Nav Program?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but....

Are there different Navigation programs(dvd's) that we can use or are we stuck using the one that comes with our 8? If so, which ones are better, and by that I am looking for nicer looking maps.

Question was good... answer might not be contained in the brains of this forum. Try google and a DVD burner.

There (obviously) is some type of hardware. The question is what sort of limits it has. For example, OS X looks for a certain ROM on boot. That means you can't install OS X on any PPC computer. It HAS to be Apple hardware.

The real question is 1) what is the hardware/processor and 2) do other programs look for certain ROMS and 3) can other software recognize the hardware.

I'm not a Linux developer and I don't have the nav, so I can't get anywhere with it. BUT, I think you could probably get some sort of embedded Linux install if you know what architecture it runs. If it runs Linux, there is probably some open source software SOMEWHERE.

So, the real question is: what architecture does the nav run? After that, we can start asking more questions.

Ok, thanks. I too dont have the brains to touch this, I was hoping others have, and did. I was thinking I could stick another NAV DVD into the dvd player and upon boot up it would run a different nav program, but I guess that would be too easy wouldnt it?
