Dvd Player?

I have been wanting to put a dvd player/ps2 or 3 in my rx8 for a little while. I still love the look of the dash and console that comes stock. So i dont really want to mess with it. I also have navigation that I dont want to get rid of. I have searched the threads and found that people are putting carputers in where their navi screens should go...but cant really find what im looking for. My question is...is it possible to find a screen for a dvd player (just the screen) that will replace the navi screen, and still have the navi work? Such as a two input monitor all by itself. Hook the navi up to one input, and a ps2/ps3 to the other input. Then use a remote to switch from one input to the other. It seems as if this would work for the visual part but, my main question is how would I get the sound to run through the bose speakers if I hook the dvd up to them. The volume **** doesnt control the navi sound, so i dont know how/or even if its possible to get the sound to go through the speakers from the playstation. and be controlled. Any ideas? I think it would look awesome if I could get it to work.

will this switcher allow me to use the factory headunit controls to change volume? I was reading on it and came accross this..

NOTE: This unit will switch between audio inputs, but does not feature integration with the factory headunit. The audio-out on this unit can be input into an aftermarket headunit, or into a device such as the AudioLink that provides an audio input into the factory headunit.

...does this mean i have to buy "audiolink" as well? and if so, what is "audiolink"?

Yes you will have to buy something like an 'audiolink' as well.

What an Aux-in does is tap-into the input at the back of the stock stereo and let you add another audio source(s).

(Think iPod adapter, or Sat-radio adapter).

Once you have the adapter installed, you can change audio sources on your stock stereo (just push the 'CD button twice) and it will play whatever you have hooked up as a source - your DVD player - through the stock stereo.

Volume controls on the steering wheel will work.

I have heard good things about the GROM Audio Aux adapter - price is good. http://www.gromaudio.com/aux.html

However, there are others that do the same job. The limiting factor to all of them seems to be that you make sure your radio's firmware is V9.55 or later. Search this site to find out how to check your radio's version.

I have searched the forum and cant find out how to see what version of firmware my radio has. All I can find is how to update the navigation firmware. How do I figure out what version I have, and if I need to, how do i update it?

If you want to save some money and do not need four inputs i went with this company. http://www.tvandnav2go.com/. Got my switcher for $150 and been using it for three years without any problems. If you need multiple inputs, just get a dvd player with a/v input so you can hook up a ps2/3 or video ipod. For audio, you will need the pie adapter, audiolink or something like that.

Yea, that would be perfect. I could watch movies through the ps2/3 so i shouldnt need anymore than one adapter...and thats a huge money difference. For the audio, do you think these two would work?

I bought mine off their ebay auction. It was listed for $200 and i made them an offer of $150 and they took it. Not sure if they are on ebay anymore.

And that audio setup is the same one i am using. You can also try audiolink if you want to use an ipod and control it with the steering wheel controls.

I would use nav2go or AVElectronic lite http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...7fd0f7f309d041 . Right now I am using nav2go , but I had the AVElectronic one. I preferred the AVElectronic for the review camera, with the AVElectronic it worked automatically when I put it in reverse while nav2go I have to hit a switch. I have a ps2 slim in my glove box and I use audiolink ipod adapter http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...7fd0f7f309d041 for the sound.

Thanks. Thats probably the setup I would want to use, but how did you hook the playstation rca's for sound (red/white)to the the audiolink ipod integration kit? In the picture, it shows that the connector piece for it is the docking plug-in for the ipod.

You can get the ipod adapter with a 1/8 connection, then get a rca to 1/8.

Does anybody know if the above link is a good navigation switcher? I am wanting to order, but I need at least three inputs for what I am trying to do. Is this what I want, because for the money it would definitely be what I order.
