Engine amplified through radio...?
When I am driving, all of a sudden, I can hear my engine through my speakers. Even when the volume is at 0, I can hear it. If the radio is off, I can not hear it. Anny suggestions?

You have a bad ignition wire, or your plug gaps are so large you are getting mis-fires.
When were the plugs last changed?
(I take it he can hear engine ignition interference on the radio.....)

Ya it's a high pitched whining, almost like a whistle, that will get a higher pitch, not louder, as I get more rpms. The deck is a Kenwood DNX 6140. Would an alternator or coil issue be covered under a bumper to bumper warranty?

It's not your engine. Its your alternator that you are hearing. If you have an installed Amplifier, it is installed to closely to another wire that functions with ignition or anything else electrical. You can either better insulate the amp wires that are picking up the sound or find where the 2 wires are close together. My accord had this too. I just had to switch the side that my amplifier goes to. If you push the power on/off button it goes away right? yeah, you gotta do some wiring relocation or insulating.
And after reading your post again, it sounds like you dont have an installed amp, but I don't know much about stock audio system on 8 or if it comes with one. But what i posted above is your issue. You just gotta find the wire that is causing the problem.

The other option is an audio ground loop. I get it all the time if I plug in my AUX cable from my phone or tablet AND have the same device getting power through it's power plug. With just one or the other, no loop is formed and there is no feedback whine. With an aftermarket stereo, it is entirely possible that it was wired without this being taken into consideration.

Thanks for all the tips. The stereo has been in for a year, and the amp has been in since May. I did have my iPod plugged into the ipod cable for the stereo, and today it seems to have gone away. I will check all my wiring again. Appreciate the input.

i have the same problem. except the whine starts and stops as i hit bumps a large bump can start it and it'll go until i hit another bump or slap the side of the radio console. Im assuming its an issue wight he way i wired the radio but I'm too lazy to take it out and redo it so I'm content with slapping the console when it starts and it goes away

yeah, look at your positive battery terminal and follow it from the fuse and through the firewall. Just kinda look around. I am pretty sure you will see something that jumps out at you. The car that it first happened to me in; I actually had Best Buy install that amp because I didnt feel comfortable yet at the time, but once you start installing your own equipment, its muccchhh easier to troubleshoot because you'll know where everything is going/coming from.

After doing a bit more digging i found this for you:
Hearing Alternator whine in tweeter... - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum
It talks a bit about what RIWWP was saying. Looks like some people had different kinds of solutions.
if it bugs you that much, one poster mentioned that Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras had a 10$ device to fix this. I didnt go digging there, sorry!
goodluck tho again.

are you guys having issues with aftermarket stereos or stock? A long time ago I was picking up ground noise interference through carpc setup I was running.
I ended up using a ground loop isolator to solve it... Odd thing is that the isolator eventually blew and when I disconnected it the original background noise was gone.
Ground Loop Isolator 265-012
Since someone mentioned plugs / etc ... I did replace my plugs, wires, and ignition somewhere in the middle of it. good call!

Yup Shell, that is exactly what my "issue" is when I have both audio out and power in for my phone or tablet. Doesn't bug me one bit most of the time, and the times that it does I just disconnect something to break the loop and it stops.
Since he has an aftermarket audio setup, I figure it's possible that he inadvertently created a ground loop.

So in order to get rid of the alternator whine I would need to get 2 ground loop isolaters? One for the headunit and one for the sub?
I currently only have an aftermarket headunit and am experiencing this problem
