engine start button

Yes....
....and No.
They make/sell a nice button, in a rotor shaped mount, as a kit that fits in your coin tray, under the dash, but it only fits the right-hand drive model (JDM,UK Australia etc.)
There is a DIY (in the DIY section) that goes thru the install of a Honda (gasp!) button in the lighter hole.

Gauntlet picked up.....
Well, Petrus, you can't just tell us it's possible, now you have to do the 'Mazda Start Kit for LHD' DIY!
We will be happy to host it in the DIY section.!

This is a project that we will be doing on the RX8 we have ripped to a million pieces right now. We are going to be using a Ignited Performance push to start system. Will advise when we have tackled this stage of the install.

hi guys, i don't know how much this is gonna help, but when the rx8 came out, about 1/2 a year later, i bought the starter button, and found out it was LHD. i didn't care, and i asked if they could mold it or something... and i went to two diff elec shops, and for some reason, they said that they couldn't mount it on the 6-spd rx8, but that the starter would work for the automatic version... and i'm talking about the rotor frame starter.. jdm
hope that helps...

Most shops won't put automatic starters into Manual cars, whether push-button or remote-start. It's a liability thing. You push the button, the engine turns over, but you have it in 1st, and you lurch forward 5 feet. But it can be done if you want it to be.

Clutch.....
When you install a starter button, you have the option of keeping the clutch switch in the circuit, or not.
Wired into one side of the switch, you would have to depress the clutch, just like using the key. Wired to the other side, you can turn the key to 'on', then push the button from outside, no clutch required.

they were a performance body shop... they deal with imports, or what not... i'm just providing my info b/c they wouldn't do it for me... didnt' know why. it sucks.
i'm sure it could be done though. i have to admit, the piece does look nice, and the circle trim around the starter lights up.

I was interested in the start button for the RX-8 a year ago until I realized you still had to stick the key in and twist half way before the start button worked. Where the hell's the fun in that?
It's like... "Ah.. **** it! My wrist has already had enough of a workout today with my crotch and I feel so goddamn tired that I'm just going to twist that son of a bitch half way round and then push the button instead."
You know what I mean? Why would I want to buy something intended to replace the other old fashioned mechanism..when I still have to use half of the old method anyway?
