Escort SR7 + Shifters Installed

Escort SR7 + Shifters Installed
I finally took some pictures of the install that I did a few months ago. Thanks to this forum and the magical 'search' button it was a very easy install - removing the front and rear bumpers was necessary to mount stuff and route wires and there are ample resources here on how to do the removal.
The front shifters are mounted low. They work like a champ. They saved me yesterday afternoon in fact.
I desperately need to wash my car.
Back shifter mounted on the bottom of the license plate. If I had mounted it on top it would have blocked the light and the police tend to frown on that.
This is a great location for the readout. It's hard to see from the outside, you don't really have to take your eyes off the road to view what it's telling you, and people following behind you at night can't see that you have a radar detector.
The 'mute' button. I wanted it somewhere easy to reach. When my hand is on the shifter it's as easy as extending my index finger to hit it.

Wow, looks like a pretty good install. I imagine those are radar blockers of some sort?
Question on the location of the front ones: Wouldn't it have been easier to mount those on the inside of the front grill to hide them a bit more?

The front things that are mounted low and stick out are the laser shifters; the back laser shifter is the thing on the license plate. They need to be exposed (and level) to work properly. They sense the laser signal after you've been gunned and they send back a scrambled signal to the gun. The actual radar detector portion is mounted behind the front bumper; to the left of the Mazda emblem.

That's clever
Spastic Monkey,
I've never heard about a all-inclusive Radar Detector / Laser scrambling combo in one device. Come to think of it, it really makes sense though. If you don't mind me asking: "How much for this attractive combo?"
What is the range on the detector, and does it have a good "noise" logic chip?
(AKA the "Chicken-little" factor)
Its perfectly discrete on in the front air-dam.
Did you install this yourself? of hand, it definitely looks professional!
Congrats on the purchase!!

Nice install! I mounted my laser shifters behind the mesh grill and have had no problems with them being blocked. I also found that the radar sensor fits nicely in the middle of the front rotory accent. Good job though, it's definately worth the cash you paid for it.

Radar Busters is a great site for information on the different detectors, has reviews, and explains how everything works. Pretty good resource. Radar detection range is roughly 4 miles according to the Radar Busters site tests. I have had plenty of warning every time I've come up on a speed trap. It also does a really good job of picking up cop sneaking up behind you with their gun on.
I bought my Escort SR7 + Shifters package on Ebay and did the install myself. On Ebay you can get them new in a sealed original package for about $600. At the local car audio shops they run ~$1700; then they want to charge you an additional $500-1000 to install it.

It's already saved me a number of times. Well worth the $600 investment.
