Question Fan Speed display

Does anyone have this problem I have?
As you may know, there's a fan speed display right next to the temperture display above the audio system (I'm not talking about tachometer display).
Anyway, that fan speed display is off and stays off even if I have the fan on. Is this some sort of "my car only" problem?

That, my friend, is the display for those cars blessed with automatic climate system. US cars don't have it, that's why it never lights up. It's there just to remind us that Mazda forgot our auto A/C.

I notice it after having my car for a week. The dealer checked other cars to make sure that it wasn't supposed to light up and they confirmed that we don't have that feature.

well, the mazda 6 has the exact same display and controls setup except the 6 has climate control... I wouldn't see why it couldn't be used actually. The ***** are a bit different, but same general layout.

pr0ber,

Yea but there has to be some differences right? At least there has to be a temp sensor somewhere. Doubt that was wired into the "8" ...

Glad that I am not the only one without that
But I think even though climate control is not available, wouldn't it be nicer if you can check the speed of your fan without looking down to the ****? For a while, I thought Mazda should wire it somehow so that it can at least show the fan speed.

Japan has the climate control, and I believe several other countries do too.

Depending on dash and vent design, I would think that it would be better to get the RX8 parts from Japan, instead of trying to get the 6 version operating well. The problem would be finding a source. Depending on how expensive it is, and how much effort it would take, I would expect one of the importers to put together a kit somewhere along the line.

Climate control in the 8 is not very special.... I work a bit differently to what I expect... I put it around 23-25 degree but how come I don't feel the same one day in 25 degree car and same other like hot day 25 degree setting is not enough?!

I've used auto climate control for 12 years in diff cars and always you have to adjust the temp up and down a few degrees because the car has such humungous heat loss or gain from the windows and roof, even if the air temp inside is 25, the radiant heat absorbed by the skin needs cooler air temp to feel cool, and vice versa in the cold. Given all that, the fan control is a blessing, adjusting the fan speed as the car gets to the required temp inside, and not blasting us with cold air before the engine gets warm in the chilly weather.
