Fasten Seat Belt Alarm
I'm sorry if this has already been asked, I did not find references... is there an *easy* way to disable the "fasten your belt!" alarm? I usually do that, but there are occasions when I would like not to be ordered to by a machine. Thanks!

He means the seat belt chime.
It's indeed annoying sometimes - I think the fix should be relatively simple since it's likely triggered by some switch in the seat belt latch, so only that switch should be disabled. Never got to actually look into the details though.

I have not been bothered by the alarm at all, but that's because of my other vehicle. (Just be glad the RX-8 isn't like this.) We have a 2002 Ford van, and the seat belt alarm dings when you start the engine. It stops after a few seconds, like the RX-8.
The problem is that if you drive the van AT ALL without the seat belt on, the alarm will ding every 10 seconds or so. It will not stop if you stop the van and shift into Park. It will only stop if you fasten the seat belt. That means that when you are in the van with the kids, and waiting for your wife to make a "quick" trip into the store, and you move the van to a closer parking space, the seat belt alarm will ding until she gets back.

Ok guys, seat belts are obviously essential, BUT does anyone actually know how to switch off the chime. I've noticed there's an electrical flex that goes directly into both the passenger and driver belt latches. I've gonna cut one, godamnit cos its driving me mad. Otherwise, this car would be perfect!

....looking at the wiring, it is not a good idea to go after the seat belt switch - it also controls all the airbags. Has its own integrated circuit in the buckle, quite complex.
A better strategy might be to attack the buzzer itself - it's inside the instrument pod, just a couple of screws and connectors to get at it. (There is only one beeper in there, so you may also be giving up your hi-rev beeper
) Then a dab of silicone on its 'hole' will shut it up, without permanent damage.
Stay away from the seat connectors without a good knowledge of what you are doing - one of them sets off the in-seat airbag - that'll leave a mark!

Good advice! I wasnt going to touch it, honest! I'll come out of the closet and confess I'm a British person, and we have all this chiming stuff. And there's me thinking that all came from America! Maybe I'll just kool down a bit and enjoy the drive. But thanks anyway, and I might just look at your solution S - cheers. Jono

i know this an old thread, but this is the only one that gave constructive feedback on this issue. cutting open the tubing to the buckle there are 4 wires.
im assuming by reading what other people have said that 2 would be airbag related and 2 would be for the the alarm.
I have red, blue, black and grey.
my logic would suggest red and blue are a pair and grey and black are a pair.
and my guess would be that the red and blue are for the alarm. can anybody who knows about the wiring confirm or deny this?
