that would work for the shutdown part, but what about it automaticly booting up when the motor is turned over. Can that be done?

Check out mp3car.com they have every thing you could possibly want to know about this. But for ease there is a powersupply made by Opus that shutsdown the PC safely when the car is turned off and starts up the PC when it the key is turned over.

Heh, I am still sketching out how I plan on doing it. There's plenty of space for what I want thank god.

thew: I dont want a ugly DIN unit breaking the curve there. What I'm looking at doing would be kinda like those stealth CD players, where you would just see an outline shape and it would skoot towards the back of the car and then angle upwards. kinda like a hidden DIN screen, but integrated into the top of the console.

I'm actually building the rails out of old DVD-ROM drive gears and some Erector set peices :D Although thats temporary. The final assembly is going to be powered by a small electric actuator since I dont have to build a circuit to control the stepping motor then. Should look pretty funky popping in and out though.

If it all works out, I dunno about building mroe of them for sale, as it's the kind of thing thats cheap but very time intensive, and you dont wanna pay my hourly rates. But I will gladly post a parts list and a howto. I plan on keeping it as mechanically simple as possible, and so far it looks like it will only be the frame, a couple brackets on the screen, some bearings and the actuator.

I'll have time to work on it next week and I hope to get the design down by then.

mine is almost done...

I finally got around (and the cash) to complete my carputer...I'm using a similiar setup to AwillSea's and must thank him because it does look good (the best I've seen without some hardcore fabrication). I'm going to be running a M10000 Via Mobo with 512 ram, 40gb notebook HD, and a slot loaded dvd/cd-rw drive (I know it's pointless to have a cd burner in your car but couldn't find one with dvd and without cd-rw). It's all built and ready to be installed, I'm planning on wiring the power to the dash so if anyone is around South Jersey/Philadelphia that knows what they're doing, I'd appreciate some help :D

I'll post some pics when I get them...

Most laptop chargers are 12 volt anyway.
Forget the inverter. (My 4runner has one built in.)
But you need to condition it somewhat.

Can someone show me where can I get the Crutchfield Flexmount Arm? The link on the first page doesn't work anymore. I have searched the Crutchfield's website, but I couldn't find the mount just like BlueGrimRX8's. Thank you.
