Finally a way to get an aftermarket HEAD UNIT into the RX8!

I recently recieved and have been using the RMAGIC single din unit. It's a great looking piece but unfortunately took a good 2+ months to get here, over $400US + shipping and actually required some very mild sanding to make it fit properly. Nonetheless now it is a GREAT UNIT, looks OEM, and I have now started using my Kenwood DVD player with built MP3, installing NAVI and all the other goodies. Oh sound quality is light years ahead too as well.

I've been speaking to a fabrication friend of mine and we have decided we are going to move forth with making a mold of the unit. We'll be making the pieces in standard fibreglass (which can be painted to the matte textured black as my original unit was..we will likely do this ourselves) and be making pieces in various colours of carbon fibre. We will be doing the mold this upcoming week. I'll let everyone know how it goes. No more 2 month waits, no more 400-500 dollar pieces and perfect fitment. Not bad.

Here's pics of another person on the board with the same piece.

How difficult was it to tap into your wiring? What about the ac controls?

Don't discuss prices, even if people request them or the thread will be removed. Once the product is finished / being produced, this thread will be closed. Any further discussion after that by the producers will be removed UNLESS the member becomes a vendor.

So far, as best I can tell, this thread is still in the green.

WHen using the original unit, wiring was nothing beyond the basics that a typical audio installer would do and AC controls and all things of the sort remain exactly the same.

I am aware of all the forum rules and will only be speaking about the development of the product until everything becomes solid.

wouldnt it make more sense to developt a kit that would replace the stock radio?

I mean after you install an aftermarket unit that whole are is useless.

Unfortunately, electronically speaking making a dash kit is not a viable solution. Once you remove the stock deck, it will disable the led panel that holds all your A/C and climate controls.

Another person on the board I believe created a custom made dash plate that removed the stock HU and replaced it with the aftermarket. Unfortunately, he had to rewire and LENGTHEN every single wire from the stock head unit into the trunk.

When I had my Mazda6, I put an Alpine Head unit in the glovebox and operated the radio using the steering wheel controls. The stock radio was kept off, but the electronics were active to run the display. Simple and it works. You just can't see the radio.

A manual flip lid... something like that on the Mazda 6 w/o nav... that would be cool. Have it made so it can be used as storage or used to mount a screen for a car pc...

I think that the stock unit sucks. The piece of Sh*t has a freaking weird shape that makes it so hard to replace head unit.My 8 is currently at the shop custom installing my audio system.I'm having my Eclipse Avn2454 custom molded in where the Navi is supposed to be.Here's some pics of my car & my system before being custom installed.
System contains:
Eclipse Avn2454 deck
PG Ti 1000.2 amp,PG Ti 600.2 (x2)
PG elite 6.5 & 5.25 components
PG Ti 15farad capacitor
2- PG ti eq30
4-7in clarion lcd monitors
2-eclipse sw9122 Ti subs
Stinger 0 gauge pro kit
JL premium blue interconnects

I watch Pimp my ride for the laughs... crappy colors, terrible additions, and crazy mods (like a huge wing)...

But 'if' I was a teenager in high school again, I would think a wing like that isn't that bad... kinda reminds me of Transformers or something you see from Fast and the Furious. So give Tru681 a break, perhaps he's still a youngin.

Well you're understaning & you're right.I'm only 22 turning 23 in april.I also watch PimpMyRide once in a while for some laughs on how they bullsh*t people on the generic stuff they put in people's cars. They do that because mtv gave them a budjet. They do have quality cars when you go there on your own but it'll cost you a lot more than the budjet mtv gives them. They also skip a lot of steps. They don't even sand down your car when they paint it on the show, they just paint over existing peeling paint!Poor quality & attension to those cars. The paint job will look good for a little while but later on it'll probabaly peel off.
