FIX for security problem.

FIX for security problem.
Hello All,
As a fellow Mazda RX-8 Owner that was fed up with dealing with the lack of interest that Mazda had with rectifying this break-in problem, I have come up with a fix to our flawed security system.
My car was also broken into in the same way as the Mazda 3.
As an electronic technologist, I decided to get the wiring diagrams and try to figure out why this is happening. After a lot of research, I have figured out how to stop this nonsense. All you have to do is pull off the door panel and find the 6-pin connector that goes to the Door lock actuator. Remove the GREEN/RED wire from the connector and put a piece of electrical tape or heat shrink over the end of it so that it does not short out on anything. Re-install the 6-pin connector and problem fixed. The low life thieves can now try their "method" all day long and the door will not open. The only negative side effect of this fix, is that you will have to use your remote to disarm the alarm. Your KEY will no longer disarm the alarm system. (Original culprit of this design flaw is the overly sensitive key cylinder electrical switch).
This is what I've disabled by removing the GREEN/RED wire.
Hope this help all of you owners, because the metal plate fix that Mazda offers is rubbish, it just makes the thieves have to "use more force". My fix will prevent the door from opening all together. Even if they were to get in, the Alarm would sound as soon as the door opens.
Regards,
Stef.

security system fix
Actually you do NOT have to use the Key. Just use the remote, or if you have the Advanced system, the remote or the request switch.
If you DO use the key you will trigger the alarm and have to disarm it with the remote anyway.
I will post the pics as soon as I get them from one of the other guys that took pics of me doing the mod. My camera was one of the Items stolen from my car when it got broken into.

Right...I ment since the key is integrated to the remote you "normally" just use the remote on the door 95% of the time.
Come to think about it...I dont remember if I have ever just used the key on the door itself...

Does the wire go to the "body" of the car, or just from A to B inside the door?
My point is, it would be SO much easier to cut the wire as it went thru the rubber boot at the door hinge - I've taken door panels off, and swore I'd never do it again......

The door panel is so easy to remove. Ensure the window is DOWN.
1. Remove the Power window control unit (big connector a bit finniky).
2. Remove metal coloured screw that was behind power window control unit.
3. Remove black coloured screw that is located at back of the door pocket.
4. Use a very small flat jewellers screwdriver to pop open the plastic cap behind the door opening lever. Remove that screw.
5. Slide the plastic surround forward first to release clip then pull out.
6. Carefully pull out the Tweeter unit and unplug it.
7. Carefully pull the door panel out. Use a tape wrapped screwdriver if you do not have the door panel removal tool.
8. Once all the clips have released. lift the door panel up tp dislodge it from the top of the door frame, but do not pull it all the way out as yet.
9. Holding it about 6 inches off of the door, reach in and unplug the small connector for the window switch lighting (through the top).
10. Reach in through the rear side to pull out the bottom door panel light.
11. Now the panel is free to be removed. Set it face down on top of the car or on a clean surface.
12. Ensure that all the plastic clips have come out of the door frame, and if not, remove them with the clip tool or pliers. I suggest going to the dealer to get about 10 spare ones just in case. They are cheap, but you should replace any broken ones. Ensure that none are on the door frame and all 9 are on the door panel.
13. The six pin door lock actuator connector is towards the rear of the door. You could either remove the pin or cut the wire. (but in both cases, ensure that you properly insulate the cut wires or the removed pin.
14. Reinstall the door panel. Hang it from the top after remembering to connect the small connector on top. It must be fully seated down before trying to push the clips in or else they will not line up.
15. Remember to clip in the light at the bottom of the door as well before you push panel in.
16 . Start with the clip towards the top of the opening where the power window panel sits. Use a flashlight then you can see thatt clip to make sure its ligned up.
17. Once that is clipped in, start from the top clip towards the upper door hinge and work down and around to see that all the clips are aligned before pushing the rest of the panel in. You should hear 9 clicks in total.
18. Install the rest of the part in reverse of removal.
It sounds like a lot of work, but once you've done it once, you could have it done in less than 10 mins. First time took me about 30 mins. Good luck !
I will get the pics up ASAP
