FM Modulator - hardwired
I've read the thread on the Custom Aux Module that OverLOAD is creating, and it looks really cool...but what is wrong with using an FM modulator that is hardwired into the antenna port?? That should alleviate all interference and allow you to wire an external MP3 player. I have a wireless FM transmitter for my iPod built by Belkin (kinda like an iTrip), which works inside of peoples houses...but sucks in my 8 or any other car. I talked to some car audio pros and they said there should be zero interference with a hard wired modulator.....anyone have any experience with these?? Pros/Cons??
The price quote from the audio shop is right around $100, which is twice as much as OverLOAD's....but the potential lack of available custom aux units concerns me....i signed up way too late.
Will the custom aux be that much better than a hard wired modulator??

I have an Alpine CRA-1667RF FM modulator installed and it works a million times better than my iTrip. Because the unit is plugged directly into the antenna port they can get away with using a stronger signal and it does an excellent job of rejecting interference from near by stations (unlike the iTrip - FM transmitter).
The biggest down fall to this setup is sound quality. Even with its nice strong signal you are limited by the frequency response of the FM tuner in the car's radio. So this means that your music will only sound as good as a strong FM broadcast and that is noticeably different from CD quality.
If you can hang in there for a little while longer I would wait for OverLOAD to release his aux input module. It should be cheaper, easier to install, and sound better than either a FM modulator or transmitter.

I want to put a flipdown for my little one in the back of the 8. My first question is has anyone pulled the headliner for any reason? Is it hard to do or does anybody have any advise? Second if I use a Wireless FM Modulator will I get alot of interference? I have a flipdown in the Mazda 6 and it is hooked up with a wireless FM modulator and we get Really no interference. I got some once but it was a real cold and foggy morning and it only lasted for a little while. Can someone help with info on the headliner and a wireless FM modulator? Thanks

I have just installed a RF modulator for my XM radio system. I will say pulling that radio is a couple hours of work but worth it. I have no problems with radio receptions, or XM radio quality.
I will tell you if haven’t listen to XM radio you are missing a world of music out there without stupid commercials, and dumb DJ’s

For those that have installed the hardwired FM modulator, where did you connect the power and ground wires? I pick-up my RX-8 tomarrow and in the near future plan on installing an FM modulator. SO far I've found the service bulletin on removing the center dash panel, which will help immensily.
I'm sure the modulator instruction will have some advice in there, but just in case could anyone here offer there experience?

I use the Monster iCarPlay Wireless - FM Transmitter for iPods I bought at the apple store. I had the belkin transmitter that thing sucks. For some reason this one transmits a stronger signal and sounds great. maybe it because it goes from the cig lighter to the transmitter to the docking port(newer Ipod). I dont know why but It puts out a clear signal I use channel 89.5 in L.A.
