Follow up - Installing PSP in RX8
hello everyone i just finished installing my psp in the overhead sunglasses tray lastnight i will hopefully have pictures tomorrow for everyone to see i installed it with the PIE aux hook up. everything went smooth except for the fab work - i used my trusty old soldering iron and a sander then painted. ill probably put a soft felt like material in later so it wont be rough taking my psp in and out.
it took me a month but i did it. i could have been done sooner but holidays ya know how that goes. im okay with it , it barely fits but it can close with the psp inside but with the aux jack off. i want to custom integrate the psp remote with it later.
ugly shot!
better from back seat so your bitches can watch
aaand the upshot of the closing clip -- this is another point where i had to use my soldering iron -- i melted it out and up further into the tray.
so in closing i like it -- i know my centering job is little off but i was high off fumes most of the time so back off. its alittle far from done all the ugly stuff is somewhat covered by something else. it kinda gets in the way of the rearview mirror KINDA but maybe thats because of my seating postion if you like to sit far from the wheel then maybe it shouldnt bother u. i think i listed everything so now questions? comments?
thanks

hey txrx8 i didnt see your complement thanks im still coming down from the plastic fumes i apologize just didnt get what you meant i guess you did the samething? lets see it and it wouldnt have taken me long if the holidays didnt get in the way so total time ... a month..
and woodysjh you do what you do with it play music or watch movies just dont watch while you drive. And again i have it running to a P.I.E. aux connector so the sound is coming from my factory speakers -- sounds great 2 me. i just want a smaller head jack so i can have it closed and still listen 2 music.
LATERR.

How to connect PSP to head unit aux?
Hi,
I'm very interested in getting a PSP to install in my 8. How do I connect it to the head unit? I checked, mine is version 9.67, i currently have a single disc with MP3 unit.
Your help is much appreciated.

Installing PSP in sunglasses holder
Hey Guys
Just wondering if anyone else has succeeded in installing a PSP into the sunglass hatch in their Rx8?
I am going to be doing it as well, I bought my PSP last week and have hacked it so that it can have GPS nav on my PSP when connected to my Holux GPS unit.
However, Im looking to use an FM transmitter rather than a PIE connection because I'm too lazy to hook it up to my stereo
Btw, did you have to cut off a big chunk of the sunglass hatch? Mine has a scoop like bit, which i'm gonna have to cut completely off
Hit me up

I got a PSP I hardly use. I'd like to see someone else do this too.
Please post pics if you do.
BTW - What site do you get your PSP hack info?
I might actually start using it more if I hacked it to do cool stuff.

Check out www.pspbrew.com for hacking your PSP info, you may not be able to hack your PSP tho depending on if you upgraded or not.
People use PSPs for everything now, I heard some team used the PSP to control their car, remote start, etc etc

PSP installed
Hey guys
Ive just completed my PSP install, took me the better half of the day and required some cutting, filing and sticking with my version. Heres how I did it:
Preparation:
1. Completely cut out sunglasses scoop - Including the connection (which in the previous guys install he left it on and soldered it/moved it a bit)
2. Bought myself a PSP car holder from ebay
3. Cut off the side brackets of the PSP holder (as they made the holder too big to fit inside the sunglass hatch
4. Filed the remaining sunglasses lid so it was a bit smoother and accomodated the PSP snuggly
5. Bought some double sided adhesive strips (similar to but not double sided sticky tape, these ones were stick on outside but velcro-like on inside. So you could snap them apart and readjust)
6. Unscrewed and removed the top part of the sunglass hatch (in one of my pictures you can see straight through the hatch to the metallic top of the car). Did this because otherwise there was not enough room -> more cutting...which I already did enough of)
7. With the PSP holder cut to fit, I attached it to the sunglass lid using the adhesive strips
8. Added some of the previous cushion lining back to the sunglass lid to cover up the rough bits
9. Filed the PSP holder's legs a little so that they would fit flush against the inside of the sunglass hatch. This tight friction fit is what keeps the lid closed now, rather than a connection
10. Finally added PSP to the mix - self explanatory
PSP was now installed, see pics + issues down bottom
Issues I have now are that because I cut off the connection bit, my lid doesnt stay in the closed position perfectly. I am still thinking of how to fix this and am currently thinking of using magnetic latch, the kind you will find on your kitchen pantry doors. A few screws and I should be able to fix. But even now, the gap is hardly noticeable and will hopefully keep the theives from scoping wats inside. Check it out
I just recieved my gps unit so I am gonna install that asap with my hacked PSP, then ill have a perfectly cheap solution to watching DVDs, having GPS and playing MP3 in my rx8. better than spending heaps on a double DIN unit
Comments welcomed, enjoy ;P

PSP + Rx8 = Cheap man's in-car entertainment
"Can I have someone hack my PSP?"
Yeh you can take it to those playstation modder ppl, but it wouldnt be worth it. Theyd prob charge u ~$100 and if they accidentally brick your PSP i dont think theyll buy you a new one ;P If you do it yourself, it'd take u maybe 30 mins + $3.50 and 10 mins to go to your local blockbuster store and hire GTA:Liberty City Stories (need this to hack your PSP if you have any version 1.50 - 2.81).
"Awesome im trying to get a psp so i can do this. can psp play music videos that you download from your computer? also did you hook it up to your radio?"
Yeh you can play any media you want, so long as it is in the right format (i.e. MPEG-4 and mp3) You can search 'PSP video 9' and use that program to easily convert all your movies/tv shows to the right format AND it also copies directly to your PSP. Yesterday I watched Pulp Fiction in the car while driving and it was sweet
Currently im using an FM transmitter to get my sound thru my speakers. I bought one from EB games for $40. Basically it works fine, but once i get a PIE Aux converter ill install that so I can get higher quality sound cos FM radio sound is fine but not fantastic.
Ill post a pic of the FM transmitter setup later
