Future System Layout....Whatcha guys think?
I recently had a 2002 Mazda Protege 5 with two Alpine Type R 12's and two Alpine MRD-M300 Amps. I traded it in for my new 8 a few months ago. I love my bass and am missing it everyday in my new 8. The stock Bose included in my GT package just doesnt have enough punch for my taste... so i have came to the decision that i wanna put the system in the 8. This is what i am looking to do...whatcha guys thinks?

Looks SWEET! but I agree with the no trunk space thing. Maybe you could mount those amps to the backs of the seats so you could at least put your beer back there for the party we're gonna have..
Also those 12"s need alot of airspace so you'd have to make sure they have big enough enclosures.
It looks like you've pretty much already decided to give your whole trunk to the project so you got more ***** than me lol
Another problem I have is the power of those amps.. they are only 300 Watts @ 2 ohms. The RMS of those subs is 500 each and peak is 1500 I think you should get 1 Alpine PDX 1.1000 amp and hook it up series/parallel so you only get a 4 ohm load with 500 Watt RMS for each -- and the bonus part is the amp is the exact same size as 1 of those amps you have, and makes much less heat. You can pick one up on ebay for about 650 shipped.
I also recommend a capacitor with ground ran back to the batt
Please forgive my babbling and horrible run-on sentences
Feel free to PM me if you need any help or anything.

Trunk space is "not a problem" and i really wanna keep the spare tire....Oh yeah...theirs always the back seats lol.
WikkedOne.....The Alpine Type R's do not require a lot of airspace nor do they need a massive enclosure like some of its competitiors do. When i built the enclosure for my Protege 5 i made it bigger than it was suppose to be for certain reasons and the sound was a bit weird b/c of the extra air in the large box. All in all it still sounded good.
Thanks for your replies guys!

Good point.
Alpine says they need about .87 which really isn't that much but when you have them over in those corners it's easy to make it too small. but I guess if you're building around those voice coils just the depth you have to use will make sure it's right. I retract my original concern over the size.
I wish I could just give my whole trunk over like that.. But I have to keep my back seat empty for my wheelchair.. so I have to put my beer in the trunk to get it home..
So do you think your gonna go with the "New hotness" amp or what? keep us posted on what you're gonna do!

I really like that Alpine Amp... it is definetly HOT, but i cannot justify paying $650 shipped for it when i have 2 perfectly good Alpine MRD-M300's from my last installation. As the old quote says "if it aint broke then don't fix it". So yeah...Ill be keeping my amps.
This is what my system looked like when it was in my Mazda Protege 5.The custom sub box and Mazda sign was made by me.

they are awesome with heat. I have them standing on their sides and used a peice of wood to screw them to where the suspension bolts to the side of the car.. with about 6 inches in between them and the sub box in the middle
I'll PM some pics this weekend
MStyle has 2 PDX 1.1000 amps and 3 type R 10"s with all kindsa crazy stuff you should hit him up for what he knows too

Im probably gonna buy a bass controller so that i can set it to where i believe it sounds the best. In addition, i will be able to flood out the bass when necessary...and lower the bass when it starts to give me a headache lol which rarely ever happens.

I have all 4 of them stacked with no problem. The heat is not that bad and the amps are real efficient

My friend has a Mazda 6 with the same exact setup and it sounds amazing, but his Bose is only 200 watts and the RX-8's is 300. So i believe that my system will sound even better than his which is gonna be awesome.
This unit will also give you a seperate bass control. If you want to buy mine from me then PM me and we will discuss a price. It worked great for the 2 weeks I had it in but then I went a different route
