FYI: Metra Dash Kits $129 @ Crutchfield.com thru June 30th 2009!!!
I did a quick search for this, but nothing came up. I haven't looked for any group buys on this lately, I just ordered straight from Crutchfield. Anyway, I did a quick Google search for "Cruthfield Coupon Codes" and I found this one:

So I tried it out...I couldn't get the image to post up here, but here's a link to my reciept...

It is probably the hardest install I have ever done headunit wise but it is DIY'able. Just get a friend that knows something and call metra if you haven't gotten the wire extensions from the Axxess box. Make sure it is 1.4 firmware as well.

I was gonna have best buy install mine, and this is what they said "we dont carry metra kits for some car because we realize that some cars OEM stereo removal is too much time consuming for the price customers are willing to pay" then i replied "what do you mean" then he goes to say "well first you have to find the kit and buy it because we dont carry it, (i was like okay i already have it), he says ok and he starts looking at the instructions. He then goes to tell me its gonna be about 2 hours of install labor time which at $80/hr comes out to $160 + $150 best buy installation fee So it comes out to $310+tax for the install not including the metra kit....(another $150 that i wasted total of $460) $460! I cant believe i have to was almost as much as my IN DASH IS GONNA COST ME...F-that. So i bought the metra kit and having a buddy help me out. Ridiculous.

^ I am going to do it myself using a DIY. , the only reason i was thinking about having best buy do it is to have the security that i can blame someone else if something goes wrong, especially with somehting as expensive as a head unit. You know what i mean? but im just gonna do it myself, right now my sideskirts and metra kit are getting painted WB i was suppose to pick them up Sat but i was busy and today is a hoe-liday so i gotta wait till tomorrow, imma have no stereo for like this whole week untill i figure out which head unit im going with but i sure did see this 7 inch touch screen, just gotta check the dimensions of it compared to the metra kit, BTW which DIY did u follow?......

^yeah i agree w/ you on the blaming on someone else. they said they would call me w/ pricing on the metra kit because they dont carry it but i just cant see spending all that for the prep of the head unit lol
i prolly could do the install myself but to me its a headache lol and idk im really feeling that 7" panisonic w/ 6 disc changer lol id be pimpin fo sho lol im lookin for a screen that has no dials, buttons, nothing just pure screen lol hell if i could drop a ten inch in that would be even more ballin lol but thats a joke.
and +1 on which diy your using. i may just go w/ this to save money.
for me its a toss up. sweet audio system or bodykits lol i dunno couple people told me to wait on the audio system since the body is all stock. i just dunno wish i had about 20g to blow lol id be in heaven. scratch that 50k lol lets live large....haha wow sorry for just completely rambling on haha

I used to install for Circuit City. I'd have charged you in the $225 area. ($150 navi install + $75) It IS due for an extra charge. It's much more complex than your typical navigation install. True, I honestly wouldn't call it "difficult", but it will take considerably longer to complete. You gotta pay for that time. I will admit, $310 is a little high though. BB always was more expensive then CC for labor.
On this note, if anyone in the central florida area needs an install done, just PM me. Would you rather pay more and have an RX8 rookie work on your car? Or spend less and have an RX8 owner work on your car? This install shouldn't take longer than about 4 hours for anyone with car audio/soldering experience.
PS.... Sweet deal on the Metra kit

Glad to help! I can't wait to get this thing in my hands. I got an AVIC-D3 with every accessory/option but satellite and the backup camera (coming soon) last March, and it's only been out of the box ONCE! I'm making a custom iPhone/iPod "interface" for my center console for it similar to this:
But not as fancy and with materials from a craft store. If there's any interest, I'll post up pics of it and maybe a walk-thru.

Best pics I could find:

That's the best I could find. I stumbled upon it a few months back. It's a Land Rover concept that's been floating around. When I saw it, I thought about how the only thing I ever use the front cup holders for is my phone and trash. Then I brainstormed a little bit and figured I could probably fab something up pretty quick out of styrafoam or something, wrap it in black material or paint it Lightning Yellow to match the car, and make it fit nice and tight so it looks like it came from the factory that way.

The $20 off discount is for ANY order of $100 or more. It's not limited to just the Metra kit.
And thanks for the interest in the iPhone/iPod interface guys. I'm a total novice when it comes to things like this. I can't even draw a straight line, so I enlisted the help of my girlfriend to get this done since she's into scrapbooking and all that artsy stuff. LOL I'm starting on it Saturday, so I'll post up a new thread and some pics then.

Edit: I called 23 minutes after their customer service closed down for the night, so I sent an email.
We're talking about this thing right?

Isn't that just for the steering wheel controls? I'm finding the mnew on eBay for ~$30 shipped. If I have to buy it separate, that's only $159, but I think I would have rather paid the extra $20 and gotten everything from one place in one shot. We'll see what happens...

*sigh*
The Metra kit contains everything you need to replace the headunit and retain everything except your steering wheel controls. There is no option for the kit with or without the Axxess box. It always comes with it. It's part of the kit. The PAC products can be bought on eBay for ~$40 and will allow you to keep your steering wheel controls. SWI-PS If you're using a Pioneer or Sony headunit. SWI-JACK for JVC, Alpine, Clarion and Kenwood.
