Just throwing my hat into the ring, I also would be interested. I would prefer the piano black myself.

Even if we went aluminum you could either paint it glossy black or powder coat it black. I think it would actually offer the most flexability...but we shall see what can be worked out.

The biggest issue with aluminum is it adds another professional service fee to the cost; painting aluminum is not really a DIY job. I will just wait and see what the final outcome is. I am just really happy that we will have another alternative - whatever it turns out to be.

Both the Aluminum and the plastic have their advantages. The plastic molded piece costs quite a bit up front that will have to be spread across expected sales (10K/100 total sales = 100$ on top of production cost for each unit). I actually like the idea of the aluminum because my cost stays the same per unit until I get into really large quantities. I have pay for the time it takes to load, program, and unload the cnc machine each time a piece is made plus shipping, which can be easily added to the cost of each unit. Then we can go with the a la' carte method and I can have someone paint or powdercoat it for an additional cost.

Not much to update on, I spent most of last week at the Masters... I will work on it some more this week.

this thread is getting good. Can't wait to see the finished product. And see the a la carte options if there are any. I think many of us are holding off on the corksports kit to see how this turns out.

Not a whole lot to update this week. I have been out of town all week and out all next week for work. I will update everyone as soon as I have something. The aluminum cnc machined piece is the way I am leaning now. I got a couple of quotes and it is looking very optimistic...

Will it be raw alum or are you planning on painting it?

I believe he said he would be offering paint or powdercoat as options...I would assume that brushed would also be an option.

Really, at this point as long as it fits and the ac and heater works properly and is cheaper than the corksport, would be good enough for me.

Very true. But can't forget the whole point is to make a better quality product at a cheaper price. Either way I know it will turn out better than the corksport kit

Subscribing, I just got my boosted 04 VR and the bose is terrible! I already have a Boston gt-42 4 channel, sl65 6.5" components, SL 95 6x9's, s35 for center, gt-22 2 channel, and a g3 10" with the zenclosures box. I cant wait to hear it all on a nice headunit.
