Halogen to HID converson

I wrecked my car about three months ago and am rebuilding it from the firewall, up and we bought a front clip that came with hid headlights and I really want to use them. My rx8 before had just regular halogen bulbs. I am wondering if anyone has tried to do this conversion with success? And how did you do it? I have an extra harness that came with the car as well if that helps. Thanks!

I would imagine that this is not an easy conversion. The FSM shows that the wiring harness for a car with halogen lights is different from the harness for a car with HID. You will also be missing the auto leveling control module (located under the passenger side dash beside the heater core) and the leveling sensors (located on the front driverside suspension and the rear passenger side suspension).

However, the wiring diagrams indicate that all the wires needed for the HID lights to function (without the leveling function) are available in the harnesses for the halogen lights. So, it should be an easy task to cut the halogen light plugs and splice on the HID plugs onto the existing harness.

The information you will need is available in the FSM... Section 13 (Electrical), Pages 40 through 53.

Thanks cybrmage. I actually did all of that last week and it worked great! I probably should have put up a how to thread. As for the leveling sensors there is no plug on my harness so I ditched the idea and manually adjusted the height with a screw driver. Super easy. Thanks though. And if anyone is interested how I went about this please pm me and we can have a nice chat on wat to cut and not.

Search OEM Denso Ballasts. Your best bet if what you've done already doesn't met your satisfaction. Good luck.
