Hard Drive Addition
Anyone have any sugestions on adding a hard drive to the car to store music?
I was thinking i would get an ipod adpater and hardwire it in and then cut the ipod connector off and splice in a usb setup to connect to my portable hard drive. Anyone have any tips or know if this would work.
Would i be able to control the songs with steering wheel controls like the ipod?
Most people are probably thinking why wouldnt you just use an ipod but i wanted something with more storage (my hard drive is 2tb) and it sounds cooler to say your car has a built in hard drive :P

Could this be added with an ipod adater as well or would they interfer with each other.obviously i would not run the hard drive and the ipod at the same time.

My proposed set up is a bit different but not sure if it would work without the ipod softwear on my hard drive

anyone know of any easy way of doing this or any reason this would not work

I zoom therefore I am.
if you're going to use a usb set up make sure it would be able to see a HD. most usb interfaces are limited to the number of folders they can see, and how many files can be in the folder. The interface between a HD and a USB key is also more different then just the connector.
with ipods being so cheap, why not just use an ipod and save the hassle?

Something tells me you don't have 160GB worth of music where you listen to every song on a daily basis. Something tells me you never will.

160 gigs of music? hell no i have like 15
Good point on the folders but if i just organize the songs alphabeticaly and dont put them in seperate folders it might work.
I guess im just looking for a relatively cheap mod i can do to the car, im getting bored waiting for the snow to melt so i can drive it.

Good choice.
Oh and on that note, many cars come with 10GB music storage right from the factory.
