I think they would look better on the center console, but it's a personal preference thing

I have seen several people mount switches in that space.... one guy put his Valentine detector in there, and another put a start button. The hardest of those would be mounting a radar detector there because it would need to be supported from the back...which would take just a bit of fabrication. As for switches.....just put some tape on it front and back before drilling so you don't mess up the edges of your holes.... oh and measure 30 times, drill once. Have fun!

There is a guy who made a storage spot for his iPod mini in the extra spot. Looked pretty good too.

I put my 8500 x50 diplay/mute there. Just take apart the hardwire thing, drill three holes in the minidisc cover and hot glue the display mute there. Then pull the sticker off the display mute thing and put it on the interior side of the minidisc cover. It looks like it set right in there, everyone says I must be a pro dremel cutter until i tell them how I actually did it. I have a post in this forum somewhere about it... didn't get any responses.

i haven't yet... but i kinda want to turn it into a little storage compartment... maybe cut a rectangle, build a fiberglass box that would fit inside the cavity, and glass it all together? anyone?

they look cool, especially if they glow red when on.... the only complain i would have is that they look kinda... big?

i dunno what the word is, but i'm more a fan of low-profile switches...

this is a sick DIY with a very clean, good looking result... i like the low-profile switches he used, and they also glow red... overall, it has a more stock look, which i like... make sure you check it out

Mounted my ipod side ways in that small spot on that faceplate.

Also, radio shack has some really small switches that that are good too. placed mine between the shifter and the navigational controler.

Will post picture later this week. Got a big snow storm ova night.

Yeah, rocker switches would look really nice in there because they're black. you'll get the look you want too cause of the red dot that lights up. Unless you are dead set on the old skool switch. It's up to personal preference.

I installed a rocker switch in my cupholder compartment. I put it on the left hand side on the flat ledge.

Not too difficult. I cut out the piece's shape from plexiglass, fix the carbon on it, and covered it with resin (carefully). If you use just the right amount of resin, your new piece has rounded edge.

If you just make a "carbonized" piece for beauty, you don't have to use pressure and casting form, when you make it.

Can someone link me to how you open/pull that piece out? I'm looking maybe installing the Harman Kardon Drive+Play display unit there.

This gave me the motivation:

There's also a company that mods the backlight color to red (or any color for that matter).
