Have 2 JL Subs, going to 1. Which one should I get?

Here's my current system.

All JL Audio
Front - VR650-CXi
Rear - VR690-CXi
2 Subs - 10W1v2
Amp - 500/1
Headunit - JVC KD-DV5100

I'm looking to replace the 2-10W1v2 with 1-10W6v2.
I want the same amount of bass or more, but in a smaller package.
Will the 10W6v2 be enough?

I'd like to stay w/ JL Audio, but it's not absolutely necessary.
The 10W6v2 will cost me $250. I would like to stay in that price range.
If I go to one sub, I will be using a 4080 box, so it needs to be a 10" sub.

Also, I don't have an amp for the front speakers. The HU is rated at 20W x 4 RMS.
It sounds fine to me when inside the car. Will an amp for the front/rear speakers make a huge difference?

as for the sub... if your going to 1 you might consider going up to a 12.. you won't get as hard of "kicks" but you will get alot more rumble than 1 10 can put out... and as for the fronts.. YES! Do it!

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention that I'm going to use a 4080 box, so the sub needs to be a 10"sub. I updated me first post to reflect that.

Hmm Do you necessarily need an amp for the fronts? I might consider this as well.

the stock head unit is 20 x 4 RMS

most good speakers are 50 - 75 RMS.. an amp will be a BIG help

The reason I asked, is because I've heard both yes & no to this question. My radio volume goes to 40.
If I'm playing some music w/ lots of bass, I have the volume up to 75% tops.
If I'm playing rock w/o as much bass, the volume might go as high as 88%

The speakers I have can handle much more than the 20Wx4 from my radio, but if I'm not going to 100% on the volume, and I don't notice any distortion, is an amp necessary?

That's what I've been told before, but no one has explained why.
I understand that the speakers will have more power available to them, but like I mentioned above, I don't turn the radio up to 100%, and when it is turned up loud, I don't hear any distortion.

I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to save some money.
A decent amp isn't cheap.

in my honest opinion.. if your pleased with your setup.. then there is no reason to change it...

an amped system with not only give you more volume but more importantly sharper highs and more full mids and lows..

sounds to me like your happy with what you got.. so I wouldn't waste my time trying to upgrade if i were you

Well, honestly, I was happy w/ the stock bose setup. I read so much on the forum about how bad it was, I decided to upgrade the speakers.
First I changed the front speakers, and the difference was so huge, the next day I bought the rear speakers and changed those also.
Eventually I added the subs and amp.

Now, my purpose for changing the subs is different.
I would like to make my trunk a little more usuable, and I'm thinking about adding the spare tire kit back in.
I'm definitely changing the subs to a single sub, just not sure if the 10W6v2 is the way to go in that price range.

The sub is my immediate concern. I plan to do this within a week or two.

The amp for the front/rear was just an afterthought because I've been wondering about it for a while. However your comment about "but more importantly sharper highs and more full mids and lows", makes me think that this is something I'd like.
Like I said, I was happy with the stock system until I heard something else.
Maybe I just need to hear my speakers amplified first.

I guess I'll try to find a store where I can try hearing this first hand.

I think the sub move is a good idea.. the more powerfull sub is going to be kinda close to what you had..

as for the rest.. you hit it on the head.. you don't miss something if you don't know what your missing.

cesar: did you ever end up putting an amp for those other speakers?
I'm in the middle of a stereo upgrade so I guess I could talk to you tomorrow but just wondering...
