Hi I had just bought a 2005 RX-8 preowned from a dealer which had audio upgrades which was done by the previous owner. When i got it off the lot the audio was working fine. its an alpine IVA-W200. now my problem is that when my friend put a cd-r in it...it started locking up and stayed at a menu to choose the language. i wasnt able to exit the menu and i didnt know what to do. pressed the eject button to take out the cd and that worked but the screen was still locked up. so i tried to reset it with the pen width reset button and it reset. but when it went to its regular screen everything was locked up. the clock was still working and the eject button only worked. all the other buttons dont do anything as well as the touch screen buttons. it even turns on randomly when i start the car and when i press power it doesnt do anything. Is there anything i could do to salvage it and make it work again? i would hate to bring it back to dealer and possibly hear that they wont be able to do anything about it since its not stock. I had a similar problem with a Sony HU I had. Happened when it was out of my Stealth for a while. When I put it back in there was a set of buttons in the manual that had to be pressed in a certain order. It was designed so that if the radio was stolen it wouldn't work for the new user as they normally wouldn't steal the manual. So, check out the owners manual for the radio. Mine was like 3 strange buttons that you had to hold down all at once.

Can always try the "disconnect the negative battery terminal" trick. Provided you have the security code the HU might need.

The symptoms described certainly doesn't sound like any security feature I have heard of. I'm willing to bet the headunit is just taking a dump on you.

My next thought is....a previous owner installed an aftermarket headunit in an 8? Well, the corksport kit hasn't been out for THAT long. And I doubt someone would spend all that money and then trade-in the car a month later...... do your A/C controls still function?

yea i tried disconnecting the battery and left it disconnected for about a good 15 mins...and then as my friend and i tried it again...since hes the one that did it for me and we tried starting her up again....my audio was still havin the same symptoms..

to firebirdude: yea its aftermarket by the previous owner....and im so glad i a/c is working or else i wouldnt have gotten that car because its quite toasty where i am....well in the mornings lol

im planning to take it back to the dealer some time soon...or possibly an authorized alpine dealer and have em take a look at it...although i wish i can solve this problem on my own with help from here.

i only got to enjoy like 2 hours of the system until my friend had to mess around with it and boom....it froze...he had put in a cd-r to play the music in the head unit and all of a sudden it was stuck at some english/spanish/french language display menu and something about agreeing to something. i bet my resetting it only made it worst.

more help would be gladly needed. Thanks in advance again.
