Head unit firmware upgrade help
Hi,
I just picked up a 2004 RX-8 which has head unit firmware 9.53. I realize that I need 9.55 to use an iPod adapter.
Unfortunately, my local dealer doesn't think an upgrade is possible, and while I actually *purchased* an upgrade from mazdaparts.com, I've heard nothing from them after several emails (at least my card hasn't been charged). I've also searched the archives but have only found references to resources that I've found to be dead ends so far (rx8garage.net, thew).
So, does anyone have any suggestions for how to get my head unit upgraded? Thanks!

Congrats on your purchase!
I sent you a PM, but then I found this thread (my search-fu failed me!) and I figured I'd post here as well for the benefit of the forum. I'm in the exact same situation, 2004 8, ordered from mazdaparts, no replies. There has to be someone capable of doing the HU update out there... All else fails, I guess replacing the HU with a newer one is a possibility, but I don't want to pay for another cd-changer. Ah, if only there were a nice JTAG port somewhere so I could do it myself...

bump, same problem.
so far i saw this, http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=672, similar to oem mazda pie, but i don't think it needs a newer firmware. please confirm! and also, don't know if the quality is the same as the other cables that use the cd input.
btw, this axxess ipod integration kit does not allow you to control the music from the ipod itself, only from playlists.

I know that there used to be a place that would upgrade the firmware for $100. Realize, however, that the upgrade and the cost of the iPod adapter puts it around $250. You can get a much better headunit than the stock that supports iPods and a metra kit for that amount of money...

after all said though, i think i might prefer metra dbl din but it will certainly be greater than 250 dollars
