Question Help On Gauge Kits:Where Can We Get Good Ones?

We can't use the pillars because of the airbags,so we're restricted to the dash.
(Those of us w/out factory nav-)
This was kit pic was released in the 2004 Mazda press kit, under "MazdaSpeed Accessories",I wonder why we can't get it,or why I can't find the damn thingey.

Anybody got an answer,a link,or a better setup?

You can get it, but it costs like 1300 bucks or something like that. I would love to have just the housing for the guages and put my own gauges in, but way to much damn money. If you really want it I think canzoomer or japanparts has it.

That's about $400 in guages plus what I'd guess is a plastic housing.
I,too would like to install my choice of gauges,so anybody fabricating out there (hint,HINT!) here's a piece that needs making!

That FEED part won't work so well for cars with the driver on the left though...it angles the guages the other way.

I'm pretty sure that Mazdaspeed gauge hood is housing Defi gauges in the picture...very cool stuff. Are they really selling the whole thing as one piece, the housing AND the gauges?

Yeah, I saw this gauge panel from FEED a while back and wrote to them asking if they were going to come out with a model for left hand drive cars. Never heard back.

When I ran across the ad and short article for this dash mount, I thought of this thread and posted... Sorry there is no website or better pics. If anything becomes available, I'll make the appropriate changes.

Please tell more about the digital guages through the stock Nav display. Did you use a plug and play adapter off the Nav system and what are you using to drive the display.

I am currently working on the components to do the same thing. Execept I am using an OBD-II/CAN adapter connected to a laptop to drive the display. Next step is to install the avelectronics NAV tap. If you have a better solution, I would love to hear about it before I install all of this.

AWillsea,

Why use a laptop? hard to mount, interface??? If it's all you've got... well that's another story. Check out http://www.mp3car.com

Also, how are you going to get a stock nav dash?? If you don't have the nav system already you'll be paying like $1,500 for it... it comes with the screen though. But it's not much good for using with a computer...

Your dash isn't ruined if you cut it to put in a pod cluster. You can get a replacement for $160 from Mazda.

awillsea,
Rick says that will work, but the resolution will come out fussy on the screen.
In california its illegal to have any aftermarket dvd player etc. in the dash not installed by the dealer, or at least running while the car is moving unless its in the head rests in the back seat.(ticket,California highway patrol)

Japan8,
I have the stock Navigation system in my 8. I basically have the GT package with every available option. With no real place to put gauges except the Nav display area, I chose to drive digital displays through the Nav screen. I would actually have preferred to put the gauges where the ashtray is as I don't smoke and it is wasted space. I notice a picture of a gauge package there (I think you posted it) but since no one knows where to get it. I am trying this solution instead.

As for the laptop, I happen to have an extra one lying around (Toshiba Libretto 110ct) by the way it is super small. And has the same size screen as the Nav. For those of you who don't have the stock Nav system it will fit like a glove in the space where the nav scree goes.

sketter,
Why will display the display be fuzzy? Does it have anything to do with driving the video signal from a computer? Also, I don't plan on watching movies while driving and my Nav display was installed at the factory. I can't imagine anyone giving me a hard time about it. Plus I live in NY, the cops here are used to the "bling bling"

AWillsea,

Unless you're in a hurry hold tight and watch the thread on the 2 Gauge Ashtry mount (and 1DIN dash mount).

The display will be fuzzy because the Nav screen is just LCD video, not VGA like a computer. Resolution comes out like crap in that situation. It'll work and be viewable, but if you are doing things like running a Nav package from your pc (which you're not) the quality is too low. maybe it'll be good enough for you since you're running the stock nav...

For the rest of you looking for the 3 Gauge Hood... I've got bad news and maybe good news. Check the thread for update info... https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...5&pagenumber=1
