Help with interior light switch please

I got my 8 with the optional interior red floor lights that stay on for 20 seconds after the doors close. Can anyone tell me how to make them work on a switch? Did a search but couldn't find any "how to" info on these. I know little about wiring, just enough to be dangerous. I did the fog light mod, and upgraded most of my other lights. (hyperwhite park lights recomended) Any details from anyone who has done this would be greatly appreciated, including where to get and mount a good looking switch. I know most 8's don't have them, mine were installed by the dealer and I don't know where to start or what to do. Thanks

search for 'FOOTWELL LIGHTS'

I don't recall a switch, but rewiring and installation has been discussed

There is a relay for these in (as I recall) the passenger side footwell that controls the timing. If you can find it you can probably bypass it, which will leave the footwell lights on all the time. As Unser suggests, search on "footwell light" (or similar strings) and you'll eventually find some posts discussing this.

Thanks, I'll try that. I read about a year ago someone said they had the footwell lights come on with the headlights but didn't say how. Can't seem to locate that thread now.

I made my footwell lights go on with the running lights. I first had them connected to the dome lights. Then installed a three way switch that would let me choose between one or the other (dome/running). The problem is that the dome circuit uses a negative switching circuit as opposed to the running lights which are switched on the positive wire. In short I learned that you could not do both with the same light. So now they just go on with the running lights and I used the three way switch are a ON\OFF\RUNNING so I can have them on without the head lights on or turned off all together.

I did basically the same thing, except that mine are either on or off. They're wired into the ashtrey light, so they come on with the parking lights. I used 4 red LEDs.

I used some festoon 9 led blubs I got off autolumination and some wire to hook mine into the door courtsey lights. They come on with the doors open, and dim out in sync with the other lights. I can't believe the Mazda kit is so expensive! I did mine for under $20.
