Help Picking Subwoofer

So I ordered a custom sub box from ebay for a 12in sub in the middle. Now I am just trying to figure out what sub I should get. I was thinking the Rockford Fosgate P3D412 I dont know anything techical about Subs and was wondering if i could get some help on picking a sub.

Like 2 ohm or 4 ohm. Single voice. Dual voice. Indepence and etc. I dont know what any of that means lol.

Also will need help wiring it up as well. My exp with subs entales just a positive and negative cable to sub box and same for the sub to the box. but the sub i am thinking about getting has connections on both sides. so would need help on how to wire that as well if possible. I have a sub in there now and its all wired. Just dont know how to wire the sub when it has connections on both sides for multiple wires to go to the sub box? Im sure I made it sound more difficult then it is lol. Thanks for any help and info i can get.

it all depends on wht type of power you looking for, but make sure its dual voice coil, the impedance of the woffer, will determine what type of am youll need and what way you wire it to stay at the ideal impeance, i suggest you look at other peoples install thread, i found it very helpful, a p3 is a pretty decent sub so it should work out nicely, 4ohms right?

well ive never seen the srq unit, just read the specs on the airspace of the box, and see if its within spec for that woofer if not i suggest you look for a woofer that needs those specs

i think it will be ok the box mounting depth is 8.5 and the sub is 6-7/8 i didnt see an airspace spec for the sun but for the box it says 1.25 cu ft for single 12in

SRQ boxes are really good quality. I have the single 10" enclosure. I went with a JL10W6V2 that handles 400 watts rms and an amp that pushes 400 rms. I think my setup is plenty for me. Since you're going with 2 12's I say go with JLW3's. And a JL 500/1 amp. Sorry I've used JL subs for a while now and that's all I would buy. I have a Phoenix Gold amp that has all the good features of the JL amp and it's been great but someday I'll probably upgrade to the JL amp.

Oh yeah, sorry the dual box through me off. In that case I'd go with a 12W6V2 and that same JL 500/1 amp. That will hit very hard and sound great in the rx8. I just ordered that same amp and sub combo as well as a box from srq for a friends Grand Prix and he's more than satisfied. Do you have an amp already? You did know you need one right?

Here's a great price on that sub.

Here's the amp.

I know those 2 are pretty pricey but you can't get any better IMO.

If that's what you decide you want you should contact SRQ and let him know you want to use that sub, he gave my enclosure a little more airspace for that sub.

No it's not just preference. That statement leads him/any inexperienced person to believe they can just grab either 2 or 4 ohm version and be fine. That is incorrect.

We need to know which amp you plan on using before we can tell you which version of the P3 you should order.

well he said he didnt have an amp yet so i said he could choose whichever, but i also said when he orders the amp to make sure he got one with the same stable impedance

I admit I skimmed over the posts. But I did catch his post just prior to mine in which he said he had an amp.

Also, as he hinted at, the P3 is dual voice coil. So if he reads the box on the amp and it says stable to 2 ohms..... then he buys the dual 2 ohm subwoofer.... he's screwed.

J Owens, just post up the model number of your amp. We'll do the rest.

No, it doesn't have much power. You'll need the dual 2 ohm version of the subwoofer. The P3 is decent. The Alpine Type-R is great too. Little cheaper.
Bridge the amp and then wire your subwoofer like this:

They're both great, but very similar, subs. The Type-R is a little cheaper, so I'd use it. You'll need the SWR-1222D.

ok cool thanks. one more question. the dual voice subs i notice habve 2 red and 2 black connectors on them. do i run wires to all 4 of those ports to the box, then from the box to the amp like you showed above? typically dont single voice subs have just 1 red and black?
