Yeah--I've decided I'm going to undertake this project in the coming months. If you had any schematics of that hinge mechanism it would be great. Cause I could do this with little initial cost: 1 PS2 (dvd player or other video unit), 1 non bose dash piece, 1 touchscreen, and alot of trips to home depot.

Just a thought, you know those hideaway touch screen from Kenwood etc. where the screen drops down and retracts into the unit itself like a CD tray?

I was wondering if you can adapt the mechanism of that and make the screen come out of the slit in the dashboard where the original orange multi function LCD is now, above the main air con vents.

Like the picture below (sorry I forgot the photographers name).

Seems plenty of space there. I have the Bose unit too, so dont wanna have to cut out the top part to make the flip up LCD.

Since the LED is attached by cable you can have it stick to the top of the screen and come out with it (cable running down the back of the screen) or have the LED flip down to let the screen out.

Now you have a real totally hidden screen

But finding the mechanism or reverse engineering an existing Kenwood unit is hard I know... any experts know if its possible?

Honestly, I can't make out enough about the hinge from the pics, but maybe once if you have a DIY writeup it will be easier to comprehend what needs to be done here.
I admire your skills, that's for sure.

actually there were alot more to this project than whats posted. I was so into the making of it, I forgot to take picture. Iwill figure out a way to explain the project.

Thats a great idea. it could get expensive(kenwood) but the finished product is priceless.
