Merry Xmas...maybe.. Wife wants to buy it /Rex ( her idea)a car cover...she has taken a real 'shine' to the 8.. but then, who could resist?
I'd rather spend it on the 3M lower clear mask.. have the upper one, where the flying debris hardly ever hits. Thanks v. much for the info, 93rd

My address doesn't appear on the nav system even though my house was built 3 1/2 years ago (and I have the most current DVD).

Some of the boys (generic, ahem) up here in the Toronto area got a group rate. I saw one of them, Rotorwheee and his wife, at our get together on Saturday..appears to be a first rate job on his Ti. I'm still haggling with my dealer to try and beat him down to $300 Cdn, taxes in. Street price is $350 + fed and provincial taxes (15%)..

There is a new version of the firmware for the OEM DVD Nav in the RX8 which is faster to load maps (easy way to see if you have it or not is if you get a huge Mazda logo on bootup instead of a dark Navteq screen) and has many new cool features that resolve annoying issues I was having (some of which are also listed in this thread). Search this forum for NAV upgrade and you will find lots of info on the topic. I am super happy I updated mine... it was worthwhile doing!

I wish it switches screens and updates faster, also only allows for detour of 5 miles but can't do anything shorter..
You could actually adjust the length of the reroute in the setup menu. It's pretty useless IMO. Sometimes you just want to detour for 2 miles, other times a longer distance. It should have been another sub menu at the detour screen to choose the length of the detour.

My main complaints with the nav system are:

1. Voice keeps nagging me at junctions when my programmed route is to continue straight ahead on the same hwy; "Keep right/left to stay on highway." I wish it had a mode that ONLY used the voice prompt when you are changing roads.

2. There is no option th choose the fastest route rather than the shortest one. Nav often directs me to use slow surface streets rather than much faster highways just because the surface street route is a few hundred meters shorter.

3. No option to plan route NOT using toll roads.

Other than these points I love my nav system.

2. You can ask the Nav to plot a course using a specific road, or you can ask it to plot all the courses and you can choose which one you want, or you can use the detour function to see if it selects the slightly longer route that is faster.... or simply hop on the road you want and it will reroute the course to destination using the road you are on.... this last technique is what I do... just ignore her (the Nav ) and take the roads you want, she will then guide you to destination from there...

3. use the same technique as above... take the toll road you know goes in the right direction and she will reroute.

Nav is far from perfect but I found my ways around it....

just my two cents...

Yes. I use those same workarounds too.
