How to disassemble front passenger seat

Hello,

I have the stock leather seats in my 2004 GT RX-8. Crazy as I am, I put a car seat in the back for my son. It actually fit real well, but one time I forgot to put my front passenger seat all the way up and he kicked in the leather backing on the front seat.

I can see that backing attaches to the inside of the plastic shell on the back of the seat by fastening on some hooks. Problem is, there isn't enough space to make the connections without taking the seat apart.

Hasn't anyone disassembled their seat? If so, any pointers? I'm worried about he side airbag attached to the seat.

Thanks!
KF

Thx

I think no matter where you post this you're going to be waiting around a long time for an answer. Proper airbag disengagement is one of those things that even if you have the knowhow, you're still hesitant to do - you really don't get a second chance.

Unless you're handy with electronics (and I don't mean "I know how to use my nav" handy, I mean "I can look at a wiring diagram and understand it" handy), I would leave it up to a professional. There are people here that definately have the know-how, but I'm willing to bet none of them are going to want to type out a full-fledged walkthrough on a process that in depth.

I know in the past I've seen people on science/tech/dorky forums discuss/write/record youtube video on fun (read: "comically destructive") things they've done with disassembled airbags - I think you'd have much better luck in getting a quick reply by posting in their forums (How Stuff Works, Discovery, Popular science/mech, etc.).

...but then again, I've never done it before either; maybe it's really simple and I'm severely overestimating the complexity of the process.

Thanks for the reply! I agree it's a pretty tricky process. I'm not sure if where I need to get in affects the airbag or not. It's the back of the seat that's broken, and the airbag is on the side. BUT, I don't want to take any chances.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I'll probably see what the dealer will offer to fix it and go from there.

Thanks
John
