how do you....

Doubt many people have since the car is so new and its a new fitting. Given some time (I am guessing mid to late summer) I would bet there are gonna be a few options.
Sorry to be so vague. If anyone has any concrete info I hope they speak up.

try www.crutchfield.com
and put in your info
so far they only have a few decks for the 8 but at least there is something to choose from.
i've also had good experience with crutchfield...they give you everything needed for the install and it is very easy to do....i installed my very first deck with only the directions they gave, and i'm not a very tech person to begin with.
be patient, more will come soon

Crutchfield has no offering that would fit the RX-8. They have not measured the car. Seeing the integrated nature of the head unti with other controls, them offering a replacement head unit probably won't happen anytime soon.

???
temas..
you may be right...
have u been to the website??? once you choose the rx8 under "what fits my car?" it gives you decks/equip that fit.....and it says these products fit your car.
but!! upon further searching i found that it says that the "climate controls are built into the factory radio and the radio can't be replaced"
so you're right about there is no cut-out for an aftermarket radio where the current radio is....but you can still get a deck and have it installed elsewhere
tricky....

I'm not sure where do you see anything on the Crutchfield web site that would be specific to the RX-8.
If I specify the RX-8, I get the following message:
" 2004 Mazda RX8 Coupe
Thanks for identifying your vehicle. Unfortunately, we have not measured this vehicle, so we are unable to confirm which models do and do not fit your vehicle at this time."
And regarding getting another deck: of course everything is possible, but installing an additional deck is not the point here. I'm sure others agree with me when I'm saying: getting another deck in addition to the factory one would look goofy. I mean, why have two radios, especially if you are not using the stock one? All those control buttons in your dash for nothing, and losing the steering wheel audio controls too... no, thanks. For me, replacing a radio is also a case where the solution has to be visually appealing and make sense, so the purpose is not just getting a radio that is better than stock. Like the other suggestion from that fella who cannot spell to save his life :p (welding an amp rack to the roof or install the deck into the glove box, yeah right, that's very viable for a daily driver :D)
The bottom line is: installing another head unit makes only sense for most of the people if the stock radio can be replaced, not just complemented with another one. Replacement would require development of a whole center console piece that incorporates all the controls the factory element has, sans the radio - and it should have a DIN opening to install whatever head unit the owner desires. Kinda like those adapters that were developed for the Ford Taurus and the Escort, for instance.
In the case of those cars, the number of vehicles sold made such a development worthwhile... whether this will be the case regarding the RX-8 remains to be seen. I, for one, don't hold my breath...

I'm sure the aftermarket audio manufacturers will step up to the plate here, and probably have standard DIN mounting kits and/or complete replacement head units available by the end of this year - including integration of the climate controls, and hopefully, steering wheel controls. In fact, I'll bet they hit the market "just in time for Christmas."
