How to retain steering wheel stereo control on aftermarket head & Metra kit?
Anyone using steering wheel control stereo adapter?
Have any one try this?
(This adapter will tap signal from steering wheel and convert to IR.
Note that your head unit must have IR remote control.)
I am worrying that it wont work with 8. Also some user claimed that IR node have to stick outside the dash to make it work properly.

It would be better if you used a wired remote from PAC. They make them for almost every headunit out there.
For exampe, if you are using a Kenwood or Alpine headunit, you would use the PAC SWI-JACK model.

Correct. The H/U must be IR controllable for this to work. I have successfully installed many of these SWIX's over many years, but they do take some time to program to get them to work correctly, plus the transmitting node must be placed in front of the H/U's ir receiver in order for it work properly.
If you want to know more about how to install these, feel free to PM me, or call PAC directly at (714)835-3022 and ask to speak with anyone in their tech dept.
I can help you out with some of the installation procedures if you're doing this yourself, and since I have several of these in my possession, I'd be more than happy to post/PM pics of the instructions/installation manuals that are included with the SWIX.

Thanks guy.
Problem is my head unit it custom in-dash CarPC.
Non of PAC adapter will fit my unit.
However I could add USB IR module my CarPC and attach PAC IR node next to it. (and hide it somewhere.... no IR node visible)
Most people is using GROM pc-2-car for their CarPC system.
I removed OEM head unit already so GROM is out.
