How to use navigation system?
Hi,
Tonight I was trying to find some local stores using the navigation system, but I wasn't able to find any of them. I tried looking for "Circuit City", "Best Buy", "Borders", "Barnes and Noble", and "Fry's Electronics". None of them seem to be in the database. I did the search by choosing:
Set Destination > Point of Interest > All > Name
Is there a way to find stores by name, or are they simply not in the database? If anyone could give me the exact steps to find, say "Circuit City", then I would be very appreciative.
Thanks for your help,
James

I guess I'm out of luck
Well, I did some more research (I read the manual), and it looks like this simply isn't possible. It looks like the navigation database only includes businesses that fall into certain categories: Restaurants, banks, auto repair, public buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, etc. It doesn't contain every business under the sun.
To be honest I'm a bit disappointed. The navigation system on my Nissan Murano contains just about every business in the phonebook. It's simply amazing. I'm not sure how they fit that much information onto a single DVD.
Anyway, I guess I'll keep a phone book in my car so that I can look up business addresses and type those into the nav system when needed. Let's hope that the navigation DVD is upgraded to contain more businesses in the future.

You can type in a businesses name ,and as you type all the letters that dont match whats in your data base will drop out .for example if you type in best buy .and after the b -if no E shows up them its not there .the best thing to do is when your driving are mark a spot on the nav then give it a name .then you can go to history and pull it up .its a pain in the *** but it works.

Yep, I've tried exactly the same thing - looking for a Best Buy or a Circuit City. I'm beginning to regret paying 2K for this POS. If I already need to know the address of where I'm going, I might as well just print out directions from MapQuest or carry the Yellow Pages in my car.
I'm very disappointed with the capabilities of this unit, as well as NavTeq's support (I use that term loosely). Our maps are 3 years old now, and they don't have an update for us. That, and they don't want Mazda upgrading the firmware for us. If I ever get a survey from Mazda, they're gonna get dinged big time on the Nav.

I've had my RX8 a year now. The new NAV DVD has "been coming out in a month or 2 and will cost about $200" every since I got my 8. I'll believe it when I have the new DVD in my hands.
