I hate keys. True keyless entry and push button start?
I have a 2004 GT and I hate keys. All jokes aside, I was curious if there was a true keyless unlock (no remote button press) and a push button start mod.

If you want to walk up to the car and have it unlock without doing anything, get in and just push a button to start you are in for an inordinate amount of work.
Later on RX-8s starting in 2006 did have the option to get Mazda's advanced keyless entry system.
This was a credit card shaped key that you could keep in your pocket. There are door request buttons on the door handles to lock/unlock the car, and a trunk request button. There was no push button start, but a **** you turned on the steering column like a key. The key never has to leave your pocket.
There is no easy way to retrofit the 2004 car with the Advanced keyless system so forget about that.
Also, every push button start that I have ever seen installed in older 8s still requires the key to be turned to the "ON" position, then the button can be pressed until the car starts. More of a novelty than anything else.
Basically what I am saying is that you are in for more work than most people on here are capable of, and if you have to ask...

Perhaps you'd like to trade cars? :D
Seriously, mine came with the advanced key system, and it is a disaster. Not only is the auto-lock/unlock function *disabled* by default (as described in the manual, and you need an "authorized Mazda dealer" to enable), but I took the bait and shelled out the 80$ to get it turned on, only to find it didn't work. The reason? Apparently the remote-antenna is damaged. Estimated repair cost? Some $500.
Not to mention the ridiculous card-shaped key, the glitchy reception, and the ludicrous turn-the-**** ignition. If you're willing to put up with hassle over this, you're better off with something you choose yourself ...
