I was reading this post and contemplating how I might be able to trailer my car to Houston one weekend & saw the Halo post and couldn't resist... I went to High School w/ the guy who came up w/ the ideas for the levels in Halo. I had heard he worked for M.S. and went out there for a business trip when he told me. How cool is that??? I'd love having a job where I got to design/play games all day!!!!!

Yeah, wouldn't that job be awesome... Unfortunately, I've heard it doesn't pay nearly as well as a developer position in, say, the petro-chem industry.

Still... loving what you do makes a lot of difference. And I'm sure Microsoft is throwing a bit of change at the Bungie team to keep them around and happy

Whenever you come this way spdspappy, drop me a line. I live 10 minutes from rotarygods shop. We'll play some Halo and I'll show you the editor (if you haven't seen it). It can't do geometry, but it can do lots of other cool effects like:

All players start with Shotguns

Instead of shooting pellets, shotguns shoot rockets

Rockets home in on their target if you are close enough to get a lock

All players have jetpacks and can fly around in the level

Thats one of my favorite setups... :D

rotarygod i coulduse your help. i have been glued to everyone of your posts in this forum. i was lookin at a single image dynamics IDQ10 D4 v.2 what do you think about this sub and could you work some magic for me with a box design. i will probably use a soundstream referance 500 or 700 or any thing that you can recamend. I can build the box with no problem no matter what it is ie mdf of fiberglass, just can't design it. i'm on a budget so money is of first concern, but i would really apreciate any help you can offer. i listen to linkin park, limp, manson and the likes mostly but i also listen to top forty and some rap, and sound quaility is the most important. thank you very much

tommy: I personally don't like Bazooka tubes but there are many people that do. I did sell them for several years though so just take that into consideration. If you like them then go for it. I can't definitively say if they will or will not work good for you. If you already have them then you may as well try them out to be sure. If you don't have them then I would be more inclined to try something else. That is just me though.

schwts: Since I worked with Matt Borgardt of Image Dynamics for a couple of years and know Eric Stevens founder of ID, I am very fond of their woofers. I have never had an instance where I have not been happy with them. They had some quality control issues a few years ago but they are long past that now. That woofer and either the Soundstream 500 or 700 should be just fine. The 700 may even be a little much for just one woofer, or maybe not. The Ref 700 would be nice on an ID Max though. You can put that box in almost any style box you want and have it sound good. If space is a concern for you then just do it in a .66 cu. ft. sealed box. Take into account for the fact that the woofer takes up some space too. You will need the power with this box. If you can forfeit a little space then do the ported box. You won't nee anything over the Ref 500 at this point and it will be louder than the Ref 700 on a sealed box. Since budget is the first concern I would lean towards the Ref 500 and ported box. If you decide to go this route let me know before you want to build it so I can get you the proper airspace and port size/length.

For a ported box for an IDQ-10 D4 v.2 here's what I recommend based on your listening requirements:

Box:

1 cu. ft. ported tuned to 35 hz. Remember that the woofer takes up .05 cu.ft of airspace and so does the port so you need to add that in as well. Keep reading and I'll tell you how much.

If you use a PVC pipe port, use a 3" port 13.25" long. Round off both ends to smoothen out airflow. This is a pretty long port and will only be able to be fired sideways in the box or will need a 90 degree turn somewhere. If you turn it remember that the centerline of the turn is the effective length. If using a PVC pipe it is recommended that you use an aeroport at BOTH ends of the pipe. If you are going to make the port rectangular (like I would!) then just make sure that the total area is the same as a 3" round pipe. Also remember that the port takes up space as well so its total area should be added into the size of the box. Since a 3" PVC port takes up .07 cu ft and the woofer takes up .05 cu ft of space your total internal box volume will be 1.12 cu ft. The next time I get to the shop I'll measure eXcentrics existing box and then measure to figure out the exact dimensions you need to build a 1.12 cu ft wedge shaped box out of 3/4" MDF. Just remember depth 1 (depth of the top of the wedge) and depth 2 (depth of the bottom of the wegde) added together and divided by 2 is the depth number in depth X length X height divided by 1728 = cu ft. That should tell you how to do it. I'll still give you the exact dimensions when I get the chance. When you get it done, give me a review and tell me how I did.

Vas 3.20 cuft, FS 27hz,Qts. .30 I had them in a sealed box in my truck and they sounded ok but I was just wondering what you recommend. I sold my amp so I am open to any suggestions you my have. I mostly listen to rap and R&B but I also listen limp bizkit and linkin park. Thanks

Hey Rotary I know your very busy, I just wondered if you had time to help me with my box size. I really like the way you designed eXentric's box. I plan on doing something like that with mine. I will probably buy the piece for te rear seat off you when it is complete! Thanks

Skinny: It depends on if you want most of your trunk or not. If you do, then a plain .75 cu. ft. per woofer sealed box is fine. If you don't care if you lose alot of your trunk like we did in eXentric's box then go with 1.25 cu. ft. per woofer ported box tuned to 35 hz. this will get MUCH louder than the sealed box. If you have one common chamber then the port would be a 4" port that is 8" long. If you seperate it into 2 chambers then each port would need to be 2.5" round by 6.75" long. If you do the bigger ported box then it could be made smaller than eXentric's box. Remember that the volume in front of the woofers in his car is pretty great. If you make just a wedge shaped box it could be smaller. remember that the trunk opening is pretty small so depending on how big a box you need, you may have to go with more than one enclosure and assemble them in the car. The other option is to completely take out the rear seats, unbolt the cross braces and install the box from the inside of the car. Then you have to put everything back together again. This isn't hard though.

schwts: Next time I see an RX-8 I'll measure everything for you. Sorry, I just forgot.

Thanks Rotary! I'm gonna make a box similar to eXentric's box but would like to save some of the trunk if I can. Couple ?'s If I use one common chamber, it reduces that amount of airspace required? If so, how much? Does it matter which direction the port is facing? Do you have any recommendations for an amp. Thanks again for helping out.

Edit: One common chamber means shared airspace right?

How much airspace does the trunk have in it?
