Thumbs up Icelink plus now available

Dension has recently released the Ice-link plus which allows for ID3 tags to be displayed on the HU display. Finally, a good ipod solution

For details:

http://www.dension.com/main.php?pageid=50&topid=42

and

http://www.densionusa.com/x/index.ph...407&Itemid=109

Also, it seems that the kit will be available for the RX-8 --> $229

see:
http://densionusa.com/merchant/merch..._Code=IA_Mazda

Has anyone tried this out yet?

The other thing that really got me interested is their upcoming screen->link product which will use the nav display

It looks like those of us who have used the PIE/ALP setup to create an AUX-in can also use this device because it seems to connect with that M-bus connector. It looks like it would plug right into the PIE adapter. I could be wrong....

It seems to me that you loose some functions that you got with their old unit and the one sold on www.mp3yourcar.com I like the fact that with mine I can navigate with my iPod. Does anyone have the Alpine unit? It seems like it's just like that one.

How does IceLink work?

I have the stock MP3 player installed in my RX-8 - so I do not have a CD changer. How does this ice link thing work in my case? Will my MP3 player be disabled? What if I did have a cd changer, would the ice link would take the place of the cd changer - and the cd changer would be disabled?

When someone gets the icelink plus installed I would love to see pictures and hear details of how it works.

it plugs into the back of the HU using a port that is NOT used by the MP3 drive (what you have) or the 6 disc changer

it becomes another input which you cannot see now (I have the PIE adaptor and can see it as EX1 only when it is plugged in)

so your MP3 drive will be fine or if you get the 6 disc it will be fine too, no worries mon

So whats the latest on this. I want to get one the FM converter just doesn't cut it. Just don't want to spend 239 if it is not worth it.

Ditto that...specifically, on our cars, what exactly does this alleged display feature do? Does it REALLY put song and/or artist tags on the stock HU display?

i still reccomend using the PIE aux input. it gives you more choices and cost less.. no you dont see the song info on the text screen.. but come on now.. when i make the mp3 i know who they are.. ....

the Icelink set up will allow you to see the song data but.. it will not allow you to add any other audio inputs. and is not cheep.

I am still waiting on my price info from them..

Sure, but we're talking iPods here...that's a lot of songs! Plus, I had hopes I could scroll playlists using HU controls and display. But maybe that's a bit of a pipedream?

Is the reported 3' cord on the Icelink long enough so that I can keep my iPod in the center console area that is behind the cupholders? I would like to just keep it there all the time. Failing that, I could sacrifice the cupholder area, I suppose, but that's far from ideal.

Thanks

Jeff

I think it would replace the pie adapter because it says on the website that it connects directly to the back of the head unit. Anyone know the actual answer on this?

Angry Not a good experiance...

OK, here's my story on the Icelink PLUS that I got as a Christmas present.
I've hat the unit since the Monday after Christmas. I called around to find someone to install the device, and found a shop in my town that would do the install. (Seems that a lot of shops didn't want to do just a "R&R" on a head unit, but wanted to sell all the bits and whatnot to do it.
They had not done an RX-8 yet, but after some noodling around, they did find out how to take out the head unit. Then the guy comes over and tells me that the plug on the end of my adapter won't fit in the port on the back of my radio!!!
I didn't believe him at first. So I asked him to show me. He was right.
The bad thing that happened after that, was that something got reset in my head unit and when I started my car to go home, the display or the radio woulnd't work.
So, out comes the head unit again, and they start checking fuses etc. Eventually, the owner of the shop did a Bench Check on the head unit and got it working again.
I was really afraid that they had screwed it up royally.
I requested an RMA and am going to eat a 15% restocking fee from DenisonUSA. I'm not happy about that, but what can you do?
I guess I'll be looking into getting an FM transmitter unit for my iPod. I was really disappointed. (as is my wife, since this was my big Christmas present from her, and I'm having to send it back)
