The ignition wire is a black with yellow stripe, starter is white with blue stripe. If you have a meter handy make sure you test first.

And yes you should have no problems with using same ground for both.

If you aren't that great with wiring you might want to leave it up to the pros I wouldnt want to see you burn down your 8, but if you want to risk it your gonna have to set your meter to vdc. black lead to ground and red lead to wire you want to find(starter). The starter wire will read 12v only during crank, then you know you have the right wire. If you want a start button your going to have to use a relay to throw 12v to the starter. The start button will also only work with the key in the on position unless you plan on having a remote start installed. If you go that route you can use the start button on your dash to activate remote start without key.

the start button i have is the Pivot illumination start button...it comes with a relay ...the relay plugs into the power (on)..the off (when key is turned to off on the car)..and the starter...the button itself plugs into ground....illumination....and the relay. so it comes good to go.

i'm not bad at wiring things...well as long as i have everything i need to do it. i was also goign to fuse the wires i was going to hook up to prevent f'ing up the cars electrical system if anythign unforseen happens.

Sorry what does 12v(yellow), acc(blue/grn), and 2nd acc (wht/red) mean?

so I bought a project rx8 and it didn’t come with a key. I swapped the engine and I can’t start it to check. I really want to see if it’s good or not and I want to start it without the ignition cylinder plugged in. please help me

You really need the key, or a new key programmer. The ECU contains an immobilizer so you can't just hotwire it.
