Infinity Basslink - Easy/Cheap/Decent? but what about X2?

I've seen a lot of people going the Infinity Basslink route... looks very attractive, self containted solution, cheap and from what i've heard is a nice addition to the Bose stock system.

They seem to fit well in the rounded corners of our trunks, would it be worthwhile to have two of these units hooked up and thumping at the same time? Would it give any noticable boost in bass? (im sure with two of them going I'd have to hook in some type of farad capacitor or something to keep lights from dimming if I was really working both at the same time. But just posing the question if getting two Infinity Basslinks would be worthwhile?

Toxin, I think that you answered your own question? If you are looking/needing two basslinks, then why not get a true setup? The basslinks are nice, but like I said if you two need basslinks you should be looking for a different setup.

FYI, I was in the same boat. I've out grown 'hey look at me I'm cool' bass, I'm will do something similar when I get the chance. Check this guys RX8 set up.

thanks for the reply --

Well it's a cost issue, my question was to see if having two basslinks makes any noticeable gain in bass performance? The price sure is right to drop two of them into each corner of my trunk.

If I were to go for a true setup - that would instantly double or even triple the price if I wanted to do it "right" (i.e. not crappy hardware) If I did ever go this route, I would be looking at getting two 4080 boxes, putting two nice 10s in there (nice and fairly priced - not some 300 dollar per sub business), an amp that could push both the subs and im sure by that point im over $1000 dollars.

Maybe I should rephrase: for the perspective of someone that's not a "hardcore" audio guy would there be a noticable (to a dumb guy like me) gain in going for a true setup vs. getting two basslinks?

Toxin, Im sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention. I was just about to pull the trigger on a basslinkII. I had the old basslink in my Miata and it was good for waht it was, then in a Miata you don't have much room to work with. Did you check out the link I posted, I think his set up was $484.

Wood, Liquid Nail, 4" PVC, Box of Screws: $34
Carpet: $20
Amplifier: $230
Subwoofer: $165
4 gauge Wiring, terminal connectors, fuses, fuse holder etc: $35
Nice sounding stereo: Priceless (Sorry, had to do it...)

So $484 installed.

oh dude you didn't offend me at all - that guy's setup is quite nice but I don't have the ability/tools/space to do any box fabrication. so any enclosure/enclsoures I need will have to be bought. (adding to the total price unfourtunatly)

Whats the avg price people are paying for those 4080 boxes? Those look nice because it doenst seem like I would lose the important spaces in my trunk. My main needed areas are the space right behind the back seats for my dufflebag and the recessed area right in the trunk for my laundry basket/storage when I travel.

Those two roudish spaces where the 4080 boxes go are the ideal place since I never fit "too" much stuff there anyway due to the irregular space.

Of course a dedicated amp & enclosures will sound better, but looking at the trunk space you want to keep and the cost of fabrication, you are on the right track. I will be getting the 4080 boxes myself, but the boxes alone will cost more that you will put in to 2 Basslinks. Yes, 2 will sound better than one, thats justs the way it is. Spend the money and install a good line driver in front of them & they should sound great.
