Infinity basslink I and II

I've searched through the forums and read a lot about the basslink's. I got a chance to hear the basslink at best buy and it sounded pretty good but the guy had another amp running power to it. my question is would it be that noticable of a difference to get the 2 instead of the 1 considering the extra money its gonna cost? The 1 goes for about 300 at best buy and about 200 on ebay. the 2 goes for about 400 from crutchfield with free shipping and about 300 with shipping from ebay. i know im going to get one of them soon just not sure what to get. the 2 has a bigger amp (250w instead of 200w) and it is a square sub instead of a circle. any help would be appreciated.

it's hard to tell which one is actually BETTER.. if it were me I'd go # 2 for 2 reasons... a little more power and it has a remote bass **** so you can adjust it from your seat.. I think its worth the little extra dough.. but thats just my $.02

The latter versions of the original also had the remote level control I think (mine does not).

I had the Basslink I and it does have a remote level control. I bought it on eBay a couple years ago for around $200.

i bought a 2. the 2 also has the option of adding an integrated 4 channel amp to it as well to power your door speakers. aside from that ive had both in my car to test the 2 seemd a good amount deeper. 50W more and a square woofer and radiator meaning more cone area.

I've got the basslink 2, actually this is my second one. I must say they sound great when they are working. Both of them have had the same problem, they turn on with the stereo, but after a few minutes there is no more output. There's still power going to the sub, just no sound coming from it. Sometimes after being stopped for a period of time the sound comes back on, but then turns off again. The only time I can get the thing to stay on is to have the stereo on without the car running. Both times I had the basslink professionally installed.

Anyone have any suggestions? Does it have anyting to do with the fact that our Bose stereo is 2 ohms and not 4 like a normal deck?

is the 2 a good sub for rap music? i listen to a lot of different kinds of music and i just heard today that the biggest complaint about the basslink is that it doesnt work that well with rap music. anyone agree with this? i talking to a guy from best buy and he was telling me i could get a good system from them intalled (sub, box, amp, wires and install) for about 500 if i decided to go with a regular sub instead of the basslink. anyone got any suggestions on a sub or amp in particular that i should look at, im gonna be heading down tomorrow to look.

Madhops, I think your problem is with the Basslink II's speaker level inputs. I had this same problem. When I initially installed the Basslink II, I only connected it to the driver side rear speaker because I was short on time and wanted it ready for a roadtrip. It worked well, but I was a little disappointed with the bass output. Then I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that the output was better with more connections. So, I connected the other rear speaker to the speaker level inputs. It sounded much better than before for about 2 mins and then nothing. It doesn't make sense to me, but someone told me I must have had the + and - reversed on one of the inputs, which I thought would make it not work at all. I switched them. Same problem. Rewired the whole thing paying careful attention to the shop manual; same problem. Eventually, I got frustrated, bought a LOC for $25 and it's been great ever since. I did a google search and apparently this happened to many others.

As far as the Basslink and rap music, I listen to rap about 80% of the time and I think the Basslink works just fine. I've had a few people tell me it sounds good too. That being said, most people prefer a ported or bandpass box for rap music. I am one of them, but didn't want to sacrifice the trunk space. It's a tradeoff, but for the price and space, I am satisfied.

Thanks Kratley. BTW what is a LOC (Low Output Connector)? So you are taking the speaker inputs and turning them into RCA's and connecting the Basslink that way? Hmmm for $25 I'm gonna try that first. I almost went out and bought a whole Amp/Sub/Box custom thing yesterday because I've been so frustrated with this thing.

LOC is Line Out Converter, but yes it does take line level inputs (speaker inputs) and turns em into RCAs

is there anything i should tell the guys at best buy or the place i get it installed to make it sound better? like the LOC, are they gonna know about that? and i talked to a person from best buy about the basslinks and hes actually heard both and said that the second one is a lot better and it plays all kinds of music well instead of just rock and alternative. only thing is they dont know when they are going to get them in. should i buy one off ebay or should i wait til best buy gets em in so i can purchase the extended warranty. best buy theyre gonna be 300 and with warranty itll be 340, about 60 more than if i got it off ebay. any ideas?

You may want to tell them to use a LOC. A lot of installers will do whatever is easiest for them unless it makes them extra money. I doubt they will charge you to extra install it with the LOC, but unless you say something they will probably just use the speaker level inputs, which is fine, but you may experience the problem madhops and I had. I got the LOC from Bestbuy for $25, so expect to pay the same. As far as where to get it...I did a google search for it and bought it from one of the sites that came up. The price was comparable to ebay if I remember correctly and they claimed the warranty was still valid if purchased from them. They also had free shipping, I think. I'll check my receipts and pm you with the details when I get a chance (I'm away from home). None of the stores around here have the II either, so if you really wanted the Bestbuy warranty coverage, I'd asked them when they expect to get it. Personally, I was trying to be as frugal as possible, so I bought it for cheap and installed it myself. Depending on the installation charge, the extended warranty, and sales tax the price could make a traditional box system the better choice. I'd keep that in mind because like I said, the Basslink II exceded my expectations and I'm very satisfied, but a traditional system (box, amp, sub) would sound better. With a 4080 box, for example, it wouldn't even take up much space. That's all I can think of right now, but I'll keep an eye out in case you have a question I can answer. Oh yeah, I don't know the quality of BB's work, but you may want to make sure they use things like gromets, rubber washers, etc. if appropriate, and stop by your local hardware store and pick up some rubber (or synthetic) washers to go behind your license plate and maybe some of those felt furniture stickers to go on the back of the plate, cheaper than the dynamat license plate stuff, $2 total, and works just as well.

ok ill have to check it out. best buy has a deal this week on two alpine 10 subs, box and amp for 370 or bump it up to two 12's for an extra 20 bucks. the amp is 400w. would that be worth it. i searched for the 4080 box and saw people saying how expensive it is, does anyone have an exact or pretty close price?

I don't know how much they cost, but I have seen that the 4080 is expensive, but well worth it. That deal sounds reasonable, but it all depends on the quality of everything (the box, subs, amp). I don' t know much compared to a lot of the members, a few are professional installers and are very helpful. Find out the specifics and post them, maybe in a new thread with the question as the title so it'll catch the right people's attention. It sounds like you've done a good job searching the forum, so you probably know who I'm talking about. I wish I could help more, but I'm sure you'll find more information than you need. Whatever you choose, the Basslink, IMO, won't be a bad choice and chances are that the 400w two 10s and two 12s will satisfy you if the Basslink would. If I can help more, let me know, and be sure to let us know how whatever you choose turns out.

ok after thinking about it a lot, i think i am going to def go with the basslink 2 because i want to keep the long part of my trunk so i can fit my golf clubs in. but the basslink 2 i have a few different options. i can get it off of premieraudio's website for 289.99 with free shipping, wait a few months for best buy to get it in or get it from crutchfield for 399.99 but it comes with the additional amp you can put in it. would this amp be a good thing to get for the 8 or would i be ok just getting the sub?

Hopefully someone got the amp add-in and will give you an opinion of it so you can make a more informed decision. I didn't get it and I'm pleased. My only problem with the bose system (perhaps I have less refined ears than others) was the weak low end. The basslink fixed that for me. If you plan on adding new speakers, the amp may be a good idea, but I doubt the amp will make a significant improvement with the stock speakers. I could be wrong, I don't have the amp so I don't know. But, for an additional $100, it may be worth it in case you decide to add speakers later. Hope that helps. My best advice is don't rush your decision, if you're like me, when you want something you want it immediately, but making the correct decision for you is always worth the wait.

My basslink blew out this weekend. Tomorrow I'm contacting Infinity about repair/exchange. Just thought some of you would like to know.
