Installed PIE, found new place for XM Commander
My brother and I installed my PIE and XM Commander this past Wednesday. No pictures, but I found a new hiding place for everything.
I don't have navigation so there is a large cavity under the removeable dash panel above the center a/c vents. After removing the CD head, we removed the center a/c vents which in turn allowed us to remove the dash panel.
There was enough room in the cavity to mount the PIE unit and XM Commander.
The head removal was simple after reading the threads here. A 10mm flexable socket on a 2ft extention did the trick. Once the bolt was out, the head pushed out with a little coaxing from the back side. There are clips that hold the front of the head in place so it does not slide out without a little pressure.
The console panel pulled off by grabbing the leather boot. I did not have to use any tools to pry the panel off and risk damaging the trim.
I ran the antenna wire up through the defroster vent and mounted the micro antenna on the dash close to the windshield.
The only thing I do not like about the PIE is it displays "EX 1" and the number 1 flashes all the time. Otherwise, it was a great project.
My brother is a very meticulous craftsman and I admired his attention to detail. Wires were wrapped in foam and secured with cable ties, wiring and ground lugs were soldered and properly secured.

I'll try to get a picture, but there isn't much to see. The XM Commander and PIE are mounted in the dash cavity where the NAV would normally go. You can't see it or get at it without removing the CD head and the dash above the center a/c vents. The XM Commander LCD unit is mounted in the ashtray.

Does the pie connect to the back of the stereo or do you put into cd changer. Also do u have the Bose system. I had contacted PIE corporation last week ref. Sirius unit and they said there is a six pin port behind the stereo that the pie plugs into.
