Hey guys, I scratched one of the plastic silver panels along side the middle console of my silver 8. Does anyone know how much they cost?

 

You can't replace them, you have to replace the console. I had my car cleaned before I put it away last fal. They hung a pine air fresher across the brake handle and it rested on the silver strip on the console. The oils in the airfreshner ate through the silver down to the black plastic.

The silver strip is a part of the console and I paid $225 CDN this spring for a replacemen.

 

Wow. That's crazy! I might have to live with the scratches, but it will kill me. What does CDN mean?

 

so does that mean the mazdaspeed cf panels along the side really include the entire console and not just the 2 strips?

 

You can paint them or cover them with Vinyl... could make them black like the Shinka or
if you like CF there's vinyl for that too...

My got scratched. I build scale models so I have some experience painting plastic. What I did I got me some 2K grit sand paper and wet sand it and then polished it and clear coat it again. It came out better that before. I want to do it on piano black but it will show the scratches even more. If you want to prtect it after you replaced/ fixed them, get you clear vinyl and put it over it.

 

My car freshner almost ate a hole all the way through

 

you can fix it still with some plastic filler.

really there is no way to buy new silver parts. that weird i removed mine today and i was thinkin about getting them redone in piano black

 

so relating to this thread...does anyone know how the mazdaspeed console kit works? is it just 2 cf strips for the silver part? cuz its like 300 something dollars

 

That's bull about not being able to buy them. I asked both Mazmart, and Rosenthal Mazda on pricing for this exact piece. I was quoted $39.95...

 

basicly it is made of three peices. two for each side on the rear half of the console and one larger peace for the front half. heres some pics form when i took mine out

 

They are separate pieces, but that does not mean Mazda sells the piece. My parts catalog had a part number for the piece, but when my dealer ordered it, he said you have to order the console because you can't get the silver strips.

I'm in the computer bussiness. A Compaq laptop has an LCD panel and an RF modulator in the top. During warranty, Compaq will replace either the panel or the modulator. When the warranty is over, you have to buy both pieces as a combo. Why should Mazda be any different?

 

Probably for the same reasons they won't sell us the OEM Flip-up Navigation dash part(s)...

 

Rosenthal Mazda (A dealer) quoted me on JUST the silver strips...

 

rob.rotor you sound so positive they can't be had other than buying a new console. It may be that you are upset at not being able to get the parts during your situation but there are other ways.

Could post that you want to buy a set from someone that upgraded to the Mazdaspeed set...

 

Actually not upset at all - poor choice of words.

I was disappointed that that the air cleaner ruined the plastic. I take googd care of my car without being **** at the same time.

I was surprised that the silver panels had a part number, but I was not surprised that the Mazda dealer could not buy them separately. I expected to pay for my housekeeper's mistake and it turned out not to be as expensive as I suspected. For that I'm grateful.

I did not know MazdaSpeed had a replacement, but by the time I ordered a MazdaSpeed part, paid duty to bring it in to Canada, paid Federal Express double the actual price for shipping and collecting taxes and duty, and then paid my deaer to put it on, it would have cost double what I paid.

I am comfortable with my decision.
