I think, iMHO, that this idea would be horrendously ugly.

If I had Nav, I'd be looking to send some sort of output to the screen to display whatever I want, then I'd search for a way to display fake gauges on it with real readings. I've seen this done on a Pioneer DVD deck so I know something like this is possible. I would certainly NOT place gauges on top of my screen!

not on top of the screen.... the idea nav down gauges, nav up cant see gauges. if you were using the nav the need for the gauges, not so important....

I don't have the time to do a PhotoChop mock up of this idea. I looked at my dash yesterday and didn't like the idea of placing the gauges next to the instrument display either.

Someone contacted me with the idea of ressurecting deWankel's design, which I'd be willing to consider, but, said individual needs to realize that the company who produces the product needs to be the one to garner the rewards, not us. I'm simply pursuing this to better my own car (I'm greedy that way). I'm pretty certain that Shine can do it but it'll probably be a fiberglass/CF composite piece. I'm also thinking it won't be a pebble-grain either.

I've always liked how the gauges look in the 350z. I know Derwankels was going after that look. If Shine can create something like that, it'll sell. Does Shine have a 350z laying around he can build a mold of?

either the Z look or the intergrated feed look-- 60mm size for me. I also think to match the interior would get the person more sales. A lot are not into the carbon filber thing.

The rX-8 dash doesn't have a single recessed scallop, but you want to add 3 to make it look like a Z? Want me to add a V-6 engine and really ugly bodywork while I'm at it?

Yes, it looks nice because it matches the rest of the Z interior. I'm not so sure it'll work with our RX-8 interiors.
