Iphone 3g integration
Im looking for a radio integration for the iphone 3g ....i did a couple of searches and found out a couple of mount which is good for the iphone 2g & regular ipods but not necessary working for 3g ...but i still need some suggestions ...
the best integration i found was Auxmod ...but it requires u to plug the 3.5mm AUXjack..
im looking specifically for only 3 THINGS :
1) you can CHARGE the phone & PLAY music at the same time ( 30 pin connector )
2) you can use the steering wheel control ( i dont care for display on LCD screen )
3) requirements 1&2 works with iphone 3G
ANYTHING else can be neglected....i just want to know if anyone has the integration that does those 3 requirements ...
P.S : i tried searching for the OEM mazda ipod integration but there isnt anyone that said it works with iphone 3g
P.s.s : i dont care if it works for iphone2g...i want it to work on iphone3g
thankz for your suggestion in advance ~

I agree. I've been searching through this forum for awhile on iPhone 3G integration. I know a lot of people have bought aftermarket headunits, but I feel its a waste of money. The iPhone has google maps for navigation and I have a bluetooth headset. Now all I need is just Pandora and my Mp3's going while I drive. The unit has to charge as well, because all those programs are battery draining...stupid apple

I think this is probably the best solution:
http://www.therpmstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=142 $124- power and input to the headunit- using the CD changer input on the back of the stereo. Allows you to change songs with the steering wheel. But, it will not charge the 3g unless you add...
http://www.scosche.com/passport $30- yes, it will make the 3g stick up a little, but it will charge it I believe. You dont have to use the dongle for short trips if you dont need to charge.
For holding the iphone,
http://www.proclipusa.com/choosecoun...secountry.aspx
choose the mount and the device holder- probably $80.
For extra credit, I have a garmin 360 with bluetooth calling that I outputting to the aux in on the first device- if all goes well, when a call comes in, the iphone will slowly mute out, and the call will come over my speakers. I've placed a microphone in my sunvisor.
This is what I am planning. Currently, I have the proclip setup with a belkin car charger going into the aux unit that I bought that plugs into the cassette input. The problem with it is that I cannot skip songs without unlocking the iphone and looking at it- very dangerous when driving.

Great notes miata2rx8. I agree that this is a GOOD solution, but not the best. I was wondering why you chose the audio link over the DICE, but none the less, one of the reasons you pay almost $150 for this cable is for it to WORK out of the box. Buying another $30 adapter is ridiculous. I mean I could be wrong and I'm sure this solution will work for A LOT of RX-8 owners, but I need something clean that works without looking cheap. Also I use the PRO-CLIP which WORKS GREAT!

+1 miata2rx8

elemental-
I went with the audiolink over the dice because
1) from what I understand, neither charge the 3g (double checked again today on the dice site)...
2) audiolink was $109 shipped with discount vs $150 or so for the dice
3) dice offers text display- but on the rx8, its pretty useless
4) audiolink allows both aux and ipod input to be active at the same time, to allow my bluetooth wireless to work
5) audiolink allows control from both the iphone and the steering wheel at the same time, except in playlist mode- I dont think the dice does- everything is controlled from the steering wheel
I agree, having a 1/2 inch adapter is stupid, but for me it actually works better- since my iphone is in a sleeve- this will allow it to dock without removing it from the sleeve...
One day someone will update the dice or audiolink to charge the 3g, until then, I think this is the best way to go.

I've been monitoring this thread and I'd like to know if anyone is getting their iPhone 3G to work with the OEM kit using the Scosche adaptor (for charging).
Will the iPhone be able to play Pandora radio when connected?

That's how l do it. Unfortunately that means no steering wheel control, but you can use the touch screen. Plus l have a air vent cradle, so it sits perfectly above the radio, and since it has an inbuilt fm tuner, the music is wirelessly transferred to the car stereo! Also, it's a hands free bluetooth receiver for the iphone.

FYI, FM tuners don't really work well in the New York City area because nearly all the frequencies are taken and you get a lot of interference.
The only way to go in this case is to plug the iPhone in.

I have the scoche FireWire/USB converter and yes it charges the iPhone 3g with no problems. It does raise the phone up by an inch on the dock but this actually works well for me since I use a case that doesn't fit in my car docking station. The inch clearance allows plug and play- and I have steering wheel control.
And yes pandora down the highway is very doable.

ZoomZoomRX-8 helped me a ton on this and i think it answers your question.
I wanted something that allows me to listen to music with my Iphone 3G and listen to calls through my car speaker along with being able to use the radio and steering wheel controls.
ZoomZoomRX-8 got the AudioLink aka XCarLink Ipod Integration Kit for Mazda from www.therpmstore.com along with the bluetooth addon kit. Heres what he said to me in a PM related to what it does:
"Yes, the AudioLink works best for the iphone 3g in my opinion. You can find the device on the therpmstore.com website. You can purchase the additional $45 bluetooth unit. Which is really cool with the new iphone 3.0 firmware update. Now you can just play your music via bluetooth without even having to connect your phone to adapter, unless you want to charge it using the adapter. Much more faster and convenient than having to plug it into the adapter. Phone call always work through bluetooth. All you have to do is pair it with the iphone the first time, after that when ever you get a call you can use fast forward button on the stereo to answer/disconnect calls. and the mic is now mounted on the steering column in my car with just double sided tape , right in front of the speedometer. Its very small and discreet."
In an other post he also stated that it works with the steering wheel buttons and radio.
I ordered it yesterday and i'll let you know if i have any issues after I install it. Prob get it installed this weekend or whenever it gets here.

Arriving Friday. I'll report back with my install/results after the weekend. Works with 2g/3g/3gs and all OS versions.
Charges, doesn't lock the phone, doesn't force you to use playlists, control through either radio, phone, or the steering wheel. Also has a separate audio in on the unit that can accept another audio source if you ever need it.
Only thing that it doesn't have is integrated bluetooth, but I use a headset anyway. I'd rather not have my conversation blaring over the speakers when I have people in the car, it's obnoxious. There's also other add-ons you can buy I believe that will give you the functionality anyway if it comes down to it.

I got it installed and this thing is badass!
specialy the bluetooth thing now that we got the 3.0 update. I dont even have to plug my iPhone 3G, it connects it self automaticaly through bluetooth and i change mode to EX with my mode button on steering wheel and i can play whatever i want from my iphone, i keep full control of it so i can play whatever song with the ipod app, i can listen to sirius XM (with the app for it), use ootune app to listen to radio stations from any city in the US/Canada/etc or even watch a movie preview with flixter or youtube and it plays through my car speaker with high quality, love it. I can plug it to my phone charger and it recharges it while using the bluetooth so doesnt mess up anything.
When someone calls me it turns off music and rings with whatever my ringtone i picked, i can pick up calls pressing >> button fast or ignore em by holding that button for 3 sec and it goes back to music or whatever i had playing. Ive got full control over the phone. Its funny i walked away from the car with my phone while my gf was listening to a song and i changed it on her and theres nothing she could do about it, i had control! hehehe :P
Thanks ZoomZoomRX-8!!

Power!!
Good to know. I'll put this on my list.
For those of us that have a 2004-05 from thrpmstore website:
NOTE for 2004-2005 Mazda RX-8: The factory headunit's firmware revision must be 9.55 or greater. The unit will not work on earlier firmware revisions or with 9.81 or 10.01. To find out which revision your Mazda RX-8 has, make sure the radio (FM) is turned on, then press and hold "TEXT." Then, also press and hold "1" at the same time for a few more seconds. The LCD should then report your firmware version.
