iPhone Mounting Options?

What are the options at this point for iPhone mounts?

Right now, I have my dock connector in my center console, and I leave my iphone in there all the time. Its great cause I don't add music very much.

The iPhone is different though. It works like an iPod when you plug into it's dock connector, but it's still a phone you need to take with you every time you get in and out of the car. Also as a note, it's bluetooth will work through my navigations bluetooth speaker, and the dock connector will do audio and power so it will really be nicely integrated.

BUT I need a place to put it!
I figure since I really don't even need to see the screen for either music or phone functions, the only thing I need is really easy in and out. Something like a dock with sides that will grab it? Mounting is another issue. An awesome place for it for me would be to the right of my right knee. Stuck to the left side of the panel next to the ashtray area. Something you wouldn't even see really unless you were looking for it, but something I could still easily grab, or stick into place.

I need a clip that has a dock built in. I need one handed insertion so I can easily pop my phone in and out of the car without needed to use both hands, without needed to open doors and latches. Something I can just slide it into, and slide it out of.

You could remove the ashtray, put a plastic insert in the opening. On the bottom of the plastic insert, cut a whole so that you could slide the connector through. Some adhesive later and you have a dock in your car.

Thats where my navigation lives. But there is probably room for both. I just need some sort of actual, low profile iphone clip & dock connector combo device.

http://store.everythingicafe.com/iphone-car-kits.htm

they have alot of different clips and holders for and iphone
i personally use
http://store.everythingicafe.com/igr.../3A78A3461.htm
it just clips to an air vent
i some of the other clips and holders may work for what you need the phone just slides in and doesnt move around, i chose the air vent one because some of the other just look bad, the air vent holder is a clean look and can be modified to fit in other places. In my car, not an rx-8, i just have it on the air vent, but on my brothers car i put one in just like the one i have next to the driver right knee and it works well
there isnt anything that will just clip to the side but some double sided tape will work just fine

Proclip has two mounts that will work (I bought both). One and Two.

You can also get them both on the other side of the cabin, though you'll have to call them to get the "Euro/Japan" versions. Still, I'm not necessarily super-happy with mine. The vent mount covers the clock on the radio, the other one popped off on me.

Check out my thread on the subject here. In short, I found the KUDA mount and DICE cradle an excellent option. Looks clean, is easily accessible, and does not get in the way.
