to answer your questions UGE,
1. I do not have the iphone hooked through a 3.5mm in my rx-8. I have it that way in my SUV, which has a regular AUX in jack, that's how I knew it will work and through some information I got online.
2. Because I do not yet use a adapter (audiolink, etc) to connect any device to my stereo, I use the motorola device, just to be able to answer the phone without having to hold it. It works just fine, only issue is when/if the windows are down, the noise in the car is too loud hear it. On a different note, getting rid of my factory tires, and putting on Kumhos (thanks to info found in this forum) has taken away almost all of the road noise...which helps when you use a speakerphone bluetooth device
Hope I answered your questions, sorry about rambling on...!

the only thing i have noticed is with the Audiolink firewire hookup, the iPhone's volume controls are overtaken by the car's control, so sliding the volume on the iPhone did nothing.
Now, with the firewire AND the headphone plugged in, the volume on the iPhone can be changed...and can start to cause distortion if the volume is too loud on the iPhone.
Also, I occasionally run into problems where if I plug both connections in, or if I plug the headphone jack in first before the firewire, I won't get sound through the speakers. But if I disconnect everything and plug the firewire first, then it works.

Your iphones will come in handy with the new Dynolicious app for collecting performance data.

Mugatu, if I got you clearly, you plug the firewire in to control the music from the steering? and you plug the aux in also, so you can use the phone? correct?
Just to verify, the phone function will not work through the firewire correct?
I wish the audio link charged the phone, but I decided to get it soon, if you can confirm that's how it functions.

also if anyone is interested in a vent mount
DLO 007-4545 Vent Mount for iPhone is a great one. I just got it, it was only $20, and in our car, the mounts perfectly between the two main front air vents, making the unit perfectly centered in the dash. THis is why I want an Aux in now, if that is connected, all that it will show is just one wire, and behold...you got a screen in the middle of you dash, and answer calls clearly through your factory speakers. I can verify that it is very easy to use the phone for calls, while driving , i did it today with an fm transmitter until i get an aux unit.

Okay, so say I purchased the Audiolink iPod adapter for my iPhone 3G instead of the OEM factory one....can I still take it to Mazda to get installed or no? Also, since my iPhone has a GPS, will the Mazda adapter block the display with a Mazda logo?
Thanks and God bless you guys!
Ben.

Hi,
Pretty interested in that, indeed... do you have a picture of your set up with the vent mount? Trying to figure out what it looks like.
+ everything works fine with the iPhone being always in "landscape" position ?

Just ordered the DICE unit for my 05 model and 3g iphone. Will be here on Friday and installed on Saturday. I don't really know how the unit would go about rendering my iPhone useless but we'll see what happens. Pictures and results of the installation will be forthcoming.

I've been looking around for an integration kit thats iphone 3g compatible and I've stumbled upon this adaptor by scosche.
http://scosche.com/products/productID/1667
It says it will make the old ipod connection charge 3g and the newer ipods.
I'm a complete noob when it comes to electronics, and I'm not sure if I'm reading this thing right.
...so I'm guess this adaptor will make all the integration kit chargable with the 3g iphones?
I'm planning on going with the factory ipod kit and this adaptor, just wanting to varify it works.

I had the same dilemma.
In the end, I went for the Sony Erricsson HCB-300 as a bluetooth kit. It sits nicely in the ashtray bay...it is a permanent install (unlike a Parrot or other device), but takes about 20 minutes to install.
For power, I have the Griffin Auto Pilot. It plugs into the 12V adaptor in the centre console. The Audio lead runs from the Auto Pilot, under the centre console to the Bose Stereo (via FM modulator). The power cable from the Auto Pilot runs into the cup holder compartment. In the cupholder compartment, I have a Griffin Window Seat holder.
The great thing about the iPhone, if you are using it for music, it that a) the music pauses on an incoming call, b) the 'ring' plays through the car speakers. I have hooked up the bluetooth kit so that the phone call plays through the car stereo, rather than through the supplied crappy loud speaker that comes with the HCB-300. (this was done with a 3.5mm Stereo Jack dual input jack. (iPhone into one, bluetooth kit into the other).
So, the upshot is...
My iPhone is my iPod...pumping out tunes....when a call comes in, the music fades, I press 'Answer on the bluetooth control' and the call comes through. When the call ends, the music starts up again. The Window Seat fits nicely into the centre console (you need to remove the foam at the bottom of the rear cup holder to get it to stick)...so I can have the lid of the cupholder closed, never needing to open it unless I am changing music...
Will post some photos asap.

Dean:
Just to clarify: You are using Bluetooth for the phone output and the lower iPhone connector for audio (and power)? Also are you feeding two audio inputs into one with a dual jack? Is that not potentially dangerous as you are driving a signal back into an output? i.e. a dual jack simply wires the two inputs in parallel.

When connected via cable, you use the Parrots control remote to select media source and playback, so you can just stow the phone away (I had mine installed in the cup holder bay rather than the glovebox) and is great for a long drive as the phone gets a full charge while traveling. If on a short trip I can just select a playlist from the phone, pipe it out to the Parrot (shows up as an Airplay Audio device) and stick the phone back in my pocket. Less chance of forgetting it's in the car that way 8).
The Parrot also has a little 3" screen than can be disconnected quickly and slipped into a little pouch to reduce the attraction to thieves.
The handsfree phone part also includes a dual mic arrangement for noise cancellation and so far people I've spoken to say they can tell I'm in the car, but I'm very clear and understandable, no echo or other distractions, just a low rumble of road noise. Using the cars stereo is just awesome for listening to their part of the call. Voice dial doesn't seem to like my Kiwi accent to much, but I'm learning which names I have to mis-pronounce to get them to dial

iPod Integration Module works with iPhone 3GS and RX-8 2011
The dealer just installed the iPod Integration Module and it works with my iPhone (even though it's officially "not supported" by Mazda). They installed the
F197 79 CFZ module and the harness kit (C9F5 V6 029) for the navigation model.
My iPhone (3GS) iOS is updated to 4.3.5.
I connect my iPhone in the glove compartment, and can control it through the navigation screen. I can see all of the data about the tracks as I can on my iPhone (playlists, artists, songs, podcasts, etc.). I can also control changing tracks and volume through the steering wheel. The module also charges my iPhone while the car is running.
It's too bad the Bluetooth wireless connection didn't work, but the iPod integration module works for me and sounds great through the Bose speakers.
