iPod Adapter vs New Radio?

Hey all, I've searched a lot about this topic and still cannot find a real clear cut answer. I have a few questions and also would just like to see what you prefer of the 2.

I'm looking at hooking up my iPod to the 8, and am trying to decide between getting an adapter or a new radio.

There is the possibility of going through something similar to Jedi's Bose thread here:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/jedis-bose-stereo-upgrade-103771/

But I want to see what you folk here think before I decide between either of the 2.

BTW, I have the 6 disc CD changer, will that support subwoofers?

I guess I don't understand your question..... is there a question?

Obviously replacing the stock headunit is the better option. And if you plan on going with aftermarket audio, it's a given. Yes you can add subwoofers to the factory headunit. Jedi did it right in the link you posted...

So I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend. Only you can answer that, and thus, answer your own question?

I was basically just seeing if there was a preference between the ipod adapter or just going all new radio, etc, and if the 6 disc cd changer headunit could support subs.
But I think I'll go the more expensive route!

haha Sound quality of any aftermarket headunit will be much better than the stock unit. In addition, you have a TON of flexibility/adjustments.

Thought about a headunit? How much you have to spend on that? A quality double-din which plays DVDs will run you probably $350 min. If you want navigation, you're looking in the $600 range min.

I just planned on going with something like this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...C-KD-R310.html

Because the way I look at it, I don't have to buy a $150 ipod adapter and I will get better sound quality. Plus the single din dash kit is only like $100, so I spend $80 extra for better quality overall, and IMO less hassle, plus something that will be better for subs/aftermarket speakers.

ehhh I guess I can see your point.

However that particular unit does not come with the iPod feature. It's an add-on. It also only has one pair of RCAs. So if you ever plan on adding an amp for aftermarket cabin speakers, I'd look at another model.

Maybe the Pioneer DEH-6300UB or, if you can swing it, the Alpine CDE-123? The Alpine has 3 pair of 4V RCAs, very nice for that price point. And if you have an iPhone, Pandora!

I won't be using an iPhone, just an old iPod touch I still have.

There is a local audio guy near me, I'll see if he has anything there/if he could get me anything at a discounted price.

I have that JVC deck in one of my cars and it does the job. Has some nice features for the money. I am running 2 12" subs and using desk power for the rest of the speakers. Need to get a separate amp. The pre outs don't put out enough voltage for my installation.
