Ipod Icelink Installation -- Problem

Hello everyone. I'm new here. I've done a few forum searches and haven't found anything that answers my question yet and I'm sorry if something like this has been posted before.

I have a 2004 RX-8 and had a Dension Icelink installed to my stock radio close to year ago I guess. After a few initial troubles everything worked perfectly for a few months.

In order to use the Ipod I need to go to the "EX" mode which is accessible by hitting the "CD" button a second time after going to CD mode.

My problem is that I lost the ability to go to EX mode. When I'm in CD mode and hit the CD button again, nothing happens. No beep, no change of mode, nothing. I was wondering if anyone knew why this happened and/or how I could get the EX mode back. I guess I'm hoping that there is a way to reset it or something.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. If anyone needs any other details please let me know. I'm very eager to solve this issue.

We'll both dension icelink and neo sp have been both having RELIABILITY PROBLEMS with both of their modules. you're not the only one w/ this problem, others have it too. Supposely theyre suppose to come out with a new module at the end of summer (which ive been waiting for, for almost 6 months.) until then...lets just hope these ones can be fixed.

Thanks for the reply.

I've definitely had my share of issues with it. It's stopped working before, a grand total of three times in fact. One time I took it back to the audio shop that installed it, left them my car for a few days for them to fix it. They were able to get the "EX" mode back somehow.

Another time it stopped working, the "EX" mode seemed to come back on it's own after quite a long time. I wonder if a disconncted battery had anything to do with it. I might try disconnecting the battery again, although I doubt that will work.

Put me on the list of not-so-patiently waiting for the new module. I wonder if I could get any compensation for the inferior product they released the first time around. Somehow I doubt it.

Thanks again.

I guess this is why my Neo iON hasnt shipped after two months since I placed my order? If so, then I'm sorta happy to wait if they can get better reliability on them.

Sounds like you have a loose cable between the head unit and the icelink cable. Have you checked the connections?

No loose cable I'll bet. Its a problem with the ICELink. Their code is ***** for sure. I've got one and I've been dealing with this same type of problem for over a year. You can often power off the head-unit and get it to recognize the ipod.

Totally unacceptable for a unit that claims to fully integrate the ipod and costs MORE than an ipod.

Well, just an update on the situation. It works again. Of course, once again I did nothing to bring it back. It just decided it was time to work again.

I went through the iceLink instructions and found an item in the troubleshooting section regarding the loss of the "EX" mode. It suggested the removal of the fuse for the radio for 30 seconds and then re-inserting it. I was so excited that I had something to try. I went out and tried the EX mode one more time before pulling the fuse and ta-da. It was working again. I was mixed with happiness, confusion and anger all at once.

I think my conclusion is the IceLink is an incredibly flaky peice of ****. Well next time it stops working I'll have something to try.

Yep, basically it works every other time you turn on the radio. I've had some success powering off the radio and powering it back on, but more frequently nothing helps but cutting the ignition or unplugging the iPod. I'm probably going to go the Mazda cd+mp3 player instead of dealing with the IceLink.
