iPod Video output to LCD?

--Edit July 2007--
Click here to see thread of the finished install
-----------------------

Hey I see there have been allot of ipod posts and I have searched through them all and found nothing that corelates to what I am trying to do. Its gonna be sweet.

I am going to be installing an aftermarket LCD screen for nav and DVD and my question is how can an iPod Video be used for video output on this screen, keeping in mind that I want the ipod to be in reach of the driver and passenger. Also i was wondering if this would let my ipod play sound through the bose system while playing non-video ipod songs as well. I understand their is already an ipod adaptor for that but i am assuming i wouldnt need them both if this first option is possible.

you guys are really smart so i hope you dont ignore this post because i am getting this rx8 next week and this will be my first mods so let me know!

The reason i want to do this is because i have organized a few hundred live concert clips and music videos of alternative rock and i want to be able to organize it through playlists to play through the Video of my LCD and hear top quality sound through the bose at the same time. I have some concert dvds but that wouldnt let me customize it as much as an Ipod video would.

let me know your thoughts!

how i'd recommend this be done:

a) AuxMod for the stereo to get the aux input you need http://www.sylfex.com/products/AuxMod/
b) video out cable for ipod video (available anywhere) to LCD inputs, simple as pie. find some way to route the audio component to the auxmod input, shouldn't be too tricky
c) ProClip mount, i have the right-side-of-console one with the iPod video-specific device holder http://www.proclipusa.com/

**** off. jstkllingtime loser

Its a serious question i dont want to be 99% done installing the thing and then realize theres gonna be loose wires all over the car. For people that have done the iPod integration, how have people hidden the wires?

And justkillingtime if u are gonna waste ur time posting stupid comments like that your just gonna make new rx8 owners like me avoid using this usefull website. why **** up a good community espescially since some people are making good money off of selling stuff to members.

it's all being installed next week, but my ipod will sit to the right of the center stack as mentioned in my above post. no wires coming out from its top, but you may need one unless you figure out how to get video out from the dock connector (it's possible, but you need to do your own homework on this one). on the bottom there will be the dock connector of a belkin auto kit, with its short wire running to the cigarette lighter nearby. 2" to the left of the cigarette lighter a 1/8" cable from the auxmod will be tunneled through the ashtray.

that explicit enough? hiding cable runs is not rocket science.

Well, aren't we touchy. If you want to be uppity, get my name right. Me a loser? Maybe, but you don't know me well enough to be sure yet. As a matter of fact, if you have been on this forum more than 10 days, you would have noticed that I try to be one of the most helpful members in the audio threads. I am usually the first one to answer the redundant questions that others flame for. Your initial questions were answered by shika, and your second post, at which my attempted humor was directed, quite frankly, is rediculous. shika hit this on the head too....hiding cables is not rocket science.

Now, after you read this, please check out the forum rules section and note that profanity is not acceptable. And, if your feelings aren't hurt too bad, be sure to post pics of your setup when it is complete.

Have a great weekend!

Signed,
Loser

buddy im sorry u took offense to the loser comment, i didnt realize you were this sensitive and that u would go so far as to refer to the sites constitution even though in this case u clearly provoked me.

Although this is clearly not "rocket science" to some of you, i should remind you that many people buy new cars and never modify anything simply because they have never done anything of this sort and would actually not know what to do. Like Myself. I am trying to learn something new and although im sure u are much better and could do this with your eyes closed i truly dont even know how to hide wires as my previous attempt was somewhat of a disaster.

Consider next time that the others in this forum might not have the same hands on experience in hidding wires as you do, everyone has skills in different things and id probably be just as cocky if i was the expert and you were the noob asking for help.

and thanks for ur help shika i'll have to look into that docking system.

This is all new to me guys...

Believe me when I say that I took no offense to your loser comment and I am far from an expert, just an enthusiast. I am interested in helping, and yes, took for granted that anyone could figure out how to stuff wires behind a panel.

The forum rules comment was actually for your own good. Even though I use the "F word" every day, I find no reason to write it in a public forum. Moderators do read these posts and do not think kindly of it.

Please lighten up!! If you can't handle my little bit of sarcasm, you will have a long row to hoe when some of real smart a$$ members start posting.
