Ipod Video in your NAV
Looks like the new Video Ipod has an accessory cable that outputs video to composite or S-Video (with the dock). If it can show you the screen via the cable, then I am really tempted to buy the AV switcher so I can not only listen to my ipod through my stereo, but now see everything on my NAV screen with my ipod tucked away...what will those wacky people at Apple think of next?

What's next from Apple you ask?!? Apple's entire operation is just a way to hide their real business. They figure if they put out a nifty gadget every few months, that nobody will question what they are really up to. Their real name is Cyberdyne Systems, and headquarters are stationed on the Area 51 base in the Nevada dessert. Right now they are trying to cover up the development of robot super soldiers with artificial intelligence. They have been working on this for years and are near completion. So to everyone reading this, be careful what you buy from "Apple", you are really funding a top secret government sponsored organization.

moostafa I hope you dont end up missing after that info on area51/apple ?
btw anyone seen that tlc show where they show employee's being flown everday for from vegas airport to work there ?
back to topic the ave unit looks better everyday and at $250 now if I can only get a plug and play instead of touching the wires, which are easy but not warranty safe

I thought about doing the same thing with the my I-photo but it doesn't work. If the I video is anything like the iphoto then it will not show interface screen through the video. The I-photo only sends a slide show through the cable.

1 input is decent since that signal can be split up if using a external dvd player with 1-2 video sources.it may require the dvd player to stay on but thats no biggie.now homdepot and walmart sell very good quality mini color cams from $50-100 which can be used as a back up cam
entire build would cost me under $400 for everything thats with the rearview camera that I have no desire for.

Very cool DIY.
Going back to the video ipod aspect of the thread, I'm wondering what the best way to take advantage of this would be...
Things I'd look for in order of priority:
* mp3 music from ipod plays through stereo
* Videos (and associated audio) from ipod play through the nav screen/stereo
* Control the iPod track selection with steering wheel
* See track info on the factory stereo display
* See the menu display from the ipod on the nav screen
How much of this is possible right now and what equipment is necessary to do it? I'm not interested in installing cameras and stuff, and I'd prefer not to have to install a DVD player (as it seems like a pain in the *** to change DVDs). I'd just like to be able to listen to mp3s and watch movies from a single portable device in the car with as easy an interface as possible.
