This thread makes me want to upgrade my entire sound system (I seem to have damaged mine a bit...damned Dubstep...), but damn if that wouldn't be expensive.

Looks clean as hell, though.

I cant leave it on for too long. idk why ive take the driver side door apart but the main bose speaker just turns itself off every once in awhile and not even when the volume is high itll randomly just cut out not sure if its dubstep though....

I still have no clue why dubstep seems to be such a craze...

Half-techno bass heavy remixes of popular songs. But not nearly as cool as it sounds. Youtube a few and see for yourself.

I got this exact setup thanks to Jedi and this thread!

Infinity Kappas in the back, Polk Tweeters in the front and rear, and Rockford Fosgate T1D410 in the back.
Sounds AWESOME! Prob not as good as yours but its 50x better than the crappy bose!

Hi Jedi

Where would you recommend that I purchased the speakers from? I need them to be shipped to NZ.

It looks like the 693.9I is the replacement model for the 6x9.

Well, it was a good run.
Was out in the car yesterday and I knew something didn't quite sound right with the sound.

Checked the subs earlier today:

been so long since I've shopped car A/V components so not sure what's out there these days.
I know JL has a w6v3 now so that's always an (expensive) option.

I'll post updates once I figure out what I'm going with

Holy moly! Didn't think you were even around anymore, Jedi. I sold my 8 like seven years ago. Still heavy into car audio though.

What mounting depth do you have to work with? It's been too long for me to remember the enclosures...

firebirdude~!
I didn't know you still roamed these parts my good man. I literally was thinking to myself as I was posting that, "man I wish FBD was still around, he'd know what to get to replace these with" What did you end up replacing the 8 with?
Yup, not only am I still around but turns out they even saw it fit to put me in charge of this little corner of the internet.

It's been so long since I've mounted those subs, I honestly don't remember the dimensions but I can pull one out this week and take some measurements. Not like they're doing me much good right now anyways...

I don't check the RX8 forum at all, but I was subscribed to this topic. So when you commented, it emailed me and I recognized the user name. :-)

I had to ditch the 8 for something more practical. Got married, bought a house, all that. Bought a cheap pickup truck and now I've got a little Ford Focus too. Just bought the wife a 2021 Nissan Rogue. I absolutely miss driving the 8, but just got other things I'd rather spend money on. :-)

I had the 4080 boxes too. I don't remember mounting depth limiting my subwoofer selection, so it might not be a huge deal. Also, you could take a swing at installing new foam yourself if that's all that's wrong with them. JL does accept subwoofers for full rebuilds, but from what I hear is pretty pricey. Like $250 per sub. If you want a decent sub that's not $500 each, check out the Kicker CompQ. Beautiful mix of great SQ and output. But again, watch that mounting depth.

Not knowing enough about speakers - it is better to replace the speakers or try to repair the surround?

Folks replace foam or fully rebuild (all soft parts) subwoofers all the time. Usually, it's not worth it on a $200 subwoofer. The 10w6v2 is not a $200 subwoofer. lol

But in addition to cost, it's going to depend on your skill. If you're all thumbs, you're going to butcher the repair job. :D

thanks Firebirdude for your input.

The easy fix here is to drop in some replacement subs and call it a day but it has been a while since I've tinkered with audio stuff on the 8 and I'm now getting the itch to keep modding. I'm leaning heavily towards yanking out what's left of the bose system and the stock head unit and giving it something a bit more modern looking.
Only issue now is that inventory is at ridiculously low levels so sourcing components is proving a challenge.

I'll keep looking around and once I've sourced everything, I'll make sure to post pics of the new system.

Packages have begun arriving and the parts I need for the next version of this build have all pretty much been sourced and now just waiting for a few more deliveries.
I will be starting a new thread once I do the install so stay tuned for that.

but here's a sneak peak...
