just bought my sub

hey everyone. on monday, i purchased my first sub for my 8. its an 8" W7. and the box i bought with it measures perfectly into the small square space in the trunk. i still have no amp, though, and i was wondering if you guys knew of any cheap amp's that have somewhere around 800 watts for maybe $300? i was looking at some thunder tc8001's on ebay, and that seems like the best one so far. im also looking for quality though, i want something with crispness to it. and does anyone have any ideas on how to mount my box so it tilts up at a 45 degree angle? any help would be awesome. hopefully i'll be bumpin' by the end of the week!

Can you give more details about the sub and box you bought.. maybe some links to them so we can look at the specs and help you out a little better...

...alright, im gonna attempt to put my pictures on the internet. it might take a bit, cause i have to install the program for my digi camera, then i'll try to post them sometime tomarrow. it's sick, though!

...my box was custom made for the sub, its 25" long, 13" wide, and 12" tall. the sub sits dirctely in the middle of the front of the box.

here's the sub i got: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=1

basically, i want it to have the deepest bass i can get from somewhere along the $300-$350 range

Well the box is WAAAYYY to big IMHO.

The Gross volume of that box is 2.25 cu/ft. Subtract .61 cu/ft for the sub and you get a net colume of 1.64 cu/ft.. and the optimum net volume for that sub is 0.875 cu/ft (sealed) and 1.0 cu/ft ported.

The best amp for it looks like the JL Slash 250/1. Its a perfect match for the RMS and peak loads. (as well as quality)
They are going on ebay for 275 shipped.

Good luck man! Let us know how it all goes....

(All this data I got from the Owners Manual of this sub)

is that still gonna be loud of i get the 250/1? cause i want it to sound clean, but also really deep and loud. im also not to sure about the amp, cause i might be getting a second W7 by the end of the summer, so buying a small amp like that might be a dumb idea. what about the 500/1 amp by JL?

the 2 8"s is perfect for that box due to the size..

as for the amp... 250/1 is going to sound clean but I don't think it's going to be as low as you would like... not because the amp isn't powerful enough, but because a single 8" just can't go as low as 12" or 15".. they just can't move enough air at those low frequencies..

You gatta remember 8"s are not designed for super lows -- They are designed for fast crisp response. So you will get a nice kick but not a rumble out of them..

The 500/1 will be nice when you have the 2 speakers. You can hook it up in parrallel and get some nice power out of it.. but with just 1 I don't know if I would take that chance.. The amps don't seem to have a "level" setting so you can't just "turn it down". You would have to turn it down at the line leveler (I assume thats what you are using to get your inputs) but you still run a BIG risk of blowing that sub.

If it were me -- i would do 1 of 2 things

- I would buy the other sub and the 500/1 and get the box rebuilt to the same specs but with 2 holes (With a divider in the middle) But you would have to save up some money to do that.

- Or if i couldn't get the money to do that i would buy the 250/1 on ebay for 275 and enjoy the hell out of it untill i got the money for my other sub and then sell the 250 on ebay for about 200 and buy the 500/1 on ebay for 375. I would also keep a sharp eye out for a used 500/1 you never know when one will pop up and you can buy it and then sell the 250/1 to get most of your money back..

thanks man, this is helping a lot. alright... this is what i decided to do...

im buying the JL remote bass control, and im gonna install that on that line of buttons where you can switch the in-dash lights from white to red, and where you turn off traction control. im going to buy the 500/1, just because it'll make it easier for when i do get the second sub. im not afraid of the risk with the remote control, cause i can tweak it right from where im sitting. but thanks for your help man, i'll let everyone know how it goes when i get it all hooked up, probably sometime in the next week or so! oh yeah, i guess the moneys not a real issue anymore either...
